Cut The Crap...by the 'Clash'

Certainly a shite album. What made it worse was that so much of the what came before from the Clash was brilliant, save for a big chunk of Sandinista, so the let down of Cut The Crap was a real slap in the face. Given the state that the band was in at the time it was no real shocker that it sucked, but it sucked way hard.

This should have actually been a decent album.

I saw the 'Mk II' version of The Clash in early 1984 - about 18 months before Cut The Crap came out - and they were playing about half a dozen of the new songs, with the general consensus being pretty positive.

How it all went tits up after that is something that's never been properly explained. I think Joe just basically lost interest, control or belief in it (or all three) and Bernie Rhodes ended up being responsible for having the bright idea that one of the last great rock n roll bands should put their name to an poorly mixed mess overrun by drum machines.

There's still a few good songs on it though, and 'This is England' is a gem.
