Cook defeated David Archuleta to become the winner of season seven of American Idol. Now the 25-year-old musician with midwestern charm continues his rise to fame. His first single, The Time of My Life debuted at #3 on the Hot 100. Cook’s self-titled debut album was released on November 18, 2008. On April 1, 2009, Cook was presented with a Platinum plaque on American Idol for selling 1,000,000 albums. He remains one of American Idol’s most popular stars.
Cook will join pop sensations Ke$ha and Orianthi who are also scheduled to perform during the one-hour results show. Ke$ha will sing her smash single Blah Blah Blah and Orianthi will perform According To You. At the end of the show, one of the twelve contestants will be eliminated during the first week of finals on American Idol.
A new American Idol stage will be revealed this week as the Top 12 take to it for the first time. The Rolling Stones is the theme of the first week, and each of the Top 12 contestants will perform the Stones song they think will best showcase their talent. Those set to perform are Didi Benami, Crystal Bowersox, Lacey Brown, Lee Dewyze, Andrew Garcia, Casey James, Aaron Kelly, Michael Lynche, Siobhan Magnus, Paige Miles, Katie Stevens and Tim Urban.
The Rolling Stones is a legendary rock band that was formed in 1962. The original members of the band were Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Ian Stewart, Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts. After Stewart’s death, Ronnie Wood joined the band in 1975, and Darryl Jones replaced Wyman in 1992. The Rolling Stones hit the U.S. during the 1960’s “British Invasion.” The legendary band has released 24 albums in the United States, eight concert albums and numerous compilations. Their album sales are estimated at more than 200 million worldwide. The Rolling Stones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989. In 2004, the band was ranked number four in Rolling Stone magazine’s 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.
The American Idol Top 12 will have a vast song library from which to choose. The Rolling Stones have recorded legendary hits, like Satisfaction, You Can’t Always Get What You Want, Under My Thumb, and Just My Imagination. On the flip side, songs like Wild Horses and Far Away Eyes will give the contestants the choice of a serious ballad. As always, song choice will be key to reaching the next level on American Idol.
