MLB 2010 (nsc)

Alert Board Moderator about this Post!

Pitchers and catchers report tomorrow for the Yankees, Phillies and several others.

Suddenly it doesn't seem so cold, and there's not as much snow on the ground.
Hope springs eternal for fans of every team - even the Pirates.

Yanks - Sawx open the MLB season at Fenway on April 4th.
Great way to start things...

Believe it or not I have some hope at last for my Natspos. Maybe a run at .500 after 2 seasons at 100 losses plus.

With the postseason dragging into November, it feels like we never stopped!

Go Halladay.

Go Polanco.

Welcome to Philadelphia (in Polanco's case, welcome back).

Welcome to the breakfast show!

with joe mauer's contract situation resolved, morneau's back problems a thing of the past, and a resurgent carl pavano, look for the twins to beat the phils in 6. you heard it here first.

Thanks for the thread Lefty.
Not certain about Sunday Night Baseball to open the season here.
Does not seem right to not have it be a Monday afternoon, kids skipping
school, people taking the day off.  Dollar driven of course.
Buckocarew, Pavano is glue factory material.

Groomed in the Sox farm system, Pavano along with another pitcher, Brian Rose were to be the foundation  of the Sox staff in the mid 90's.  They had glimmer for about a year.  Pavano was traded with Tony Armas Jr to the Expos for Pedro Martinez in '97.  Pavano really was never the same.  He made some serious bling riding the pine with Yanks.   Was he throwing heat against the Royals?

Pavano was a bust with the Expos and we gave Pedro away. That was when baseball in Montreal was really over. Still pisses me off how 94 work stoppage ruined that team.

Yeah tradition is gone Nellie. Didn't the Reds and Orioles use to start the season for their respective leagues? At least they're not starting the season in Japan. Shocked

Usually opened up in Cinci  ...the a few teams the next day. Always loved the Tigers opener on the radio with Ernie Harwell. Living outside Toronto toward Detroit we used to get a lot of games on the radio at night as I was a kid:

Harwell
Nuxhall in Cinci
Prince and the green weenie in Pitt
By Saum in Philly before Callas
Buck in St loo
Caray in Chitown

All eyes are on Stephen Strasburg.

That kid's the Nats crown jewel.
Be interesting to see how they handle his development.

The high point of this season here will be the debut of Pedro Alvarez.  Hopefully in a few season he can help break the curse of Barry.  If not, we may have to wait another 18 seasons.

Hopefully they start him at AA and see how he goes regardless of his spring stats. Drew Storen in relief could be a good one too.

Kan. man sues Royals claiming hot dog injury

By BILL DRAPER, Associated Press Writer 3 hours, 6 minutes ago

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)—Baseball fans who sit six rows behind the third-base dugout at the Kansas City Royals’ stadium know they might have to duck a few foul balls.

But a Kansas man says it was a flying hot dog, not a baseball, that almost put his eye out last year.

John Coomer has filed a lawsuit against the Royals seeking more than $25,000 for injuries he sustained Sept. 8 when he was smacked in the eye with a hot dog chucked by the team’s mascot, Sluggerrr.

Coomer said the wayward wiener caused a detached retina and the development of cataracts in his left eye.

Royals spokesman David Holtzman declined to comment Tuesday. He also would not say whether the lawsuit is the reason the team is looking for a replacement for its large lion mascot.

The 1994 Expos were BY FAR the greatest team to never play in a World Series.  That was THEIR year and they had a super team.
