Rolling Stones inspired street names win Dartford Borough an NLPG award

After years of planning and careful deliberation, the Dartford Borough Council announced this week that it won the NLPG Award for Most Interesting Anecdote or Street Name in its design to name local streets in recognition of famous hometown boys and Rolling Stones members Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.

The Dartford Bourough Council News explains policy does not allow for streets to be named after living persons, so the Dartford Council instead looked to reference Rolling Stones songs that would be familiar to fans both young and old.

The area will be part of a $560 million development to provide 1,500 "innovative and environmentally friendly" homes,

Dartford Borough Council leader Jeremy Kite said, "We came up with the idea because it's great to give new housing areas a sense of history and residents are telling us they love the idea.  The Rolling Stones have made a big mark on the world and it's great for us to recognize their roots.  It is a very groovy development, - a very modern, creative community  and I think people will enjoy the street names. "

Below is a list of confirmed street names and their references.

Stones Avenue (Band name)
Babylon Close (Bridges to Babylon - album)
Ruby Tuesday Drive (Ruby Tuesday)
Dandelion Row (Dandelion)
Little Red Walk (Little Red Rooster)
Lady Jane Walk (Lady Jane)
Angie Mews (Angie)
Rainbow Close (She's A Rainbow)
Cloud Close (Get Off Of My Cloud)
Satisfaction Street (I Can't Get No 'Satisfaction')
Sympathy Street (Sympathy For The Devil)

The new street names will begin to appear later this year.

How come Dartford Borough Council can name streets and roads after Rolling Stones songs, but cannot seem to put up a commemorative plaque at the train station – something, IMO, that would be a little more appropriate. They’ve talked about it in the local press before, but it never seems to happen.
