Quote:mick singing jjf in a black skirt does NOT work for me.. me thinks no way this idea would fly at msg.... people would probably laugh him off the stage. i can stand a lot of weirdness from these guys, but this is seriously silly.
What are you talking about?
And by the way, fuck Madison Square Garden.
I had a friend who liked to think of herself as the worlds biggest Stones fan- "oh Mick! oh Keith! I LOOVVVE those guys!" blah bla blah...
After watching 'Ladies and Gentlemen...' one night- and me commenting that they were a great bar/punk/blues/jazz band, and that they were actually a pretty weird group, she got really mad ("the Stones are NOT weird!!").
Next we watched a New York Dolls video from '74- Don Kirshner's Rock Concert - and she got REALLY mad at the Dolls, saying it was the worst shit she ever heard and saw.
She seemed to like Stone Temple Pilots or something...
I laughed at her for her outrage (like some conservative old fart from Nebraska in the mid-'60's) at the Dolls- don't think she ever saw the promo video for "Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby..." or had any concept of the creative and immaginative social side of the Stones. All she knew was "Keith takes hard drugs and doesn't give a fuck".
That was 15 years ago or so.
About two years ago she had a little mishap- she's loved snorting, smoking, and mostly shooting coke, and had a massive stroke.
Now- to quote Bowie- "she's stupid in the street, and she can't socialize". She's toast. Done.
Poor ignorant redneck girl. Better to dig the bright side of the music and the fun and outragesnouss of wearing flashy, poofy clothes than try to cop the dark side image of these rock n' roll sorts.
So yeah- Mick or the Dolls wearing dresses over creepy, drug addicted nihilism anyday.
Maybe a bit off topic, but what's this bit about Mick wearing a skirt and it not flying with the well-heeled dolts at MSG?
