Today I visited Mary at the nursing home in Ft Lauderdale. It's a good thing that she cant move around because most of the patients are there for serious reasons and its not good, I saw some really ugly shit. At least in Mary's case her current problems are not life threatening. But her state of mind is weakened considerably after all she has been through and she doesnt feel like she has the strength to go on. Actually she does not want to get up and do the rehab because it hurts so bad. I talked to her for a while and deep down inside she knows she has to somehow gather up the strength to get through the terrible discomfort and complete the therapy. Traveling back to NJ poses serious fears of pain but until she gets back she cant get to the next step which is the hip replcement. So she has no choice because otherwise she'll just rot away and die in the nursing home. Oh I feel so badly for her. I tried to cheer her up but thats not easy. She was very happy to see me and I'll go back again on Friday. She has no computer there so no Rocks Off. I told her I would post this and she said yes, tell everyone to pray for the strength to go on. On a positive note, she looks better than the last time I saw her before the transplant, and thankfully that worked out well for her.  If you want to send her a card, flowers, etc its:

Thanks for the update Ellen. I'm glad we spoke on the phone Friday night.
My friends, the situation is dire. I really don't know what to do anymore.
I tried to phone Mary yesterday. She did pick up but I could hear her moaning as she
was bringing the phone to her mouth. All she said was "Not now. Can't talk". She sounded out
of breath and in great discomfort.

All she has to do is be able to get out of that bed and into a wheelchair.
If she can do that, she'll be sent home to Jersey and she can get her hip and knee repaired.
Her liver is fine!! That's the irony. Her liver is fine; it's the pain from her hip and knee that has driven
her to this deep depression. I know how pain can drive a person mad. It's horrible.

Time to try to call again.
Please pray for Mary and for those of us that are desperately trying to motivate her.

Thanks to the people who asked for her number. Texting might be the best way to go because she doesnt always answer her phone. At least she'll know we are thinking of her and she is missed.

Thank you Sioux. I really appreciate your kind words and your prayers. It's hard as a friend to sit on the sidelines and feel helpless.

That said. Our own Sweet Virginia paid Mary a surprise visit today as Jini is in Florida for a few days. I hope SV doesn't mind that I'm sharing a few lines from her email to me:

"We had a really good conversation. She is determined to get out of there next week. I told her I was so proud of her. We talked about the logistics of getting in her seat on the plane. She said she knows what she has to do, just shut up and bear the pain when she sits down so they don't decide she shouldn't fly.

We cried when I got there and when I left, and a couple of times in between, but generally, we had an upbeat visit. I made a spur-of-the-moment decision to tell her about Luxy. We both cried then, and Mary ended up saying "oh, my God, things could be worse for me than they are".  This was what I was hoping she would think, even though things are so hard for her.

We talked about you guys, the coma, me meeting Fabio in Rome, her trip to Lisbon, the Stones shows and who all was there. She said it made her feel so much better."

Oh my, yes! What a wonderful and timely visit. So hard in many ways, but uplifting too. Motivating! Between Paula and SV, I'm hoping this really gives Mary the incentive she needs
