Better news today.

I talked to Mary yesterday!!! Her Mom dialed my cell, handed Mary the phone and we had a nice conversation for about 20 minutes. She held the phone just fine and says she can absolutely use her hands, although they are weak. She was a little weepy, naturally, but completely clear headed. She feels so isolated without her phone and misses talking to us. She seems to have a good grasp on her medical condition, knows where she is, and just wants to get her hip replacement so she can get her life back. She even gave me a few classic Mary quips (Like busting on Gazza's accent). That tells ME she's still got some fight in her!

All Mary needs is a small flip phone and her plan is through Boost Mobile. Number one priority is getting her a phone so she doesn't lose her mind. I will speak to Betty and see how we can get this done. If anyone has any suggestions, please post. It was so good to talk to her.

Happy to report that our hero Betty has located the TWO cell phones Mary brought home with her from Florida!! She will charge them and hopefully all the contacts are intact. Making progress. Now trying to figure out how to prevent Mary from dropping or losing the phones. Perhaps a way to wear it around her neck..................

I just spoke to a Social Worker at the Rehab Center. Mary was approved for 30 days of care at their facility. That 30 days is up May 2nd. Tomorow there is a team meeting with Mary, Betty, Social Work, Nursing and Therapy to discuss what to do next. I have asked to be conferenced in on that call to try and get some answers once and for all and to be a second pair of ears for Betty.

I know Mary is adamant about going home. I also know Betty will risk everything to take her home, against her own Doctor's wishes. At least if I am in the meeting, I can ask questions and maybe get other options or answers to help everyone make the best possible decisions. The fact that Mary has been so combative and non-cooperative does not bode well for her.

Say some prayers please and if I may be so bold as to ask for a few for myself.

It's my understanding that she will be discharged on May 3rd.
Now I'm confused.

Nonetheless, this is a huge challenge for Betty but she is determined to give Mary one more shot at coming home.

At least we'll be able to call and text to offer our encouragement and give Mary some company.

Mary is being discharged Friday, May 3rd.
It's going to be a big challenge for both Mary and her Mom but both are in great spirits and optimistic that
things are going to work out.
The Home Health Agency has been in touch with Mary, Betty and with me. They have assured me
that they will provide her with every available service.
Gimmekeef, the wheelchair was delivered Tuesday and kind neighbors have assembled it. Betty is very grateful
to you.
According to Mary's Mom she just wants to be home, able to talk on the phone and get back on the internet.

Let's all take a minute today, Mary's birthday,to send her all the positive mojo we can muster.

Hope to see her back here posting soon.
