Keith's outpourings of fondness for 'Bridges to Babylon' in 'Life' (which pleasantly surprised me as I thought he may have been a bit more averse with the 'benefit' of hindsight to the relatively modern-sounding/ experimental side of some of it, as opposed to the more retro-style of stuff like Voodoo Lounge) gave me a good excuse to listen to that record for the first time in a little while.

A record I've never got tired of from the day it came out, and choc-full of songs that strike a chord with me. One of their most underrated albums, and (leaving aside Tattoo You, which was a bit unique in the way it was cobbled together) their best collection of new songs since Some Girls.

Well, I've championed Bridges To Babylon here, myself. It's a great album and - Tatoo You aside - is definitely their best post-Some Girls work. In all truthfulness, I never quite got Voodoo Lounge and the whole retro-vibe that many supposedly liked about the record.

really? 'Saint of Me' was one of the most popular songs when that record came out.

I could never understand the widespread apathy or even loathing for 'Always Suffering'. It's a little gem - harmonies to die for, and some beautiful guitar especially at the end.

The whole album is so beautifully recorded and mixed, too. Maybe just behind 'Tattoo You' as the best sounding Stones record.

'How Can I Stop' is the song on it that over time has proven to be the slow burner for me, though.

"Stranded"  - Saints

I detested the song - without reallu listening properly - but now it's probably my favourite cut on the record and most definitely Keith at his crooning best. It's a number I'd like to hear on the next tour.

'8' - J. J. Cale

But I'm also currently listening again to that wild Zappa 'Stairway to Heaven' cover, by Frank Zappa. I say that he has to be an alcoholic; judging by the way he looks in the youtube video. He should be erased. Also. Alcohol is bad for your health. Also: voting for stupid fucking assholes.

Have a nice sunday, everybody.  taylor made smile

They played it once. At Madison Square Garden in January 1998.

The 'Greatest Stones Audience In The World' reacted to it en masse as if someone had farted in their Budweiser.

The otherwise fine audience recording of the show is something to behold when the band launches into this number. Namely, the surreal sound of almost 20,000 pairs of feet shuffling simultaneously to the bog and the concession stands, jabbering incessantly en route. It's as if the Garden had been infested by a flock of mynah birds who then suddenly decided to migrate south for the winter.

Gazza, you really should consider writing your own book.

Doesn't even have to be Stones-related, perhaps just a collection of miscellaneous observations on life in general.

You'd have at least one buyer on this side of the pond.  taylor made smile

Yes, the show where the also performed Lowdown, Might As Well Get Juiced and Always Suffering. It's a shame they didn't see fit to play a more varied selection on other dates. Typical that New York got the special treatment, too!  Kiss my undercover ass
