My husband is a classical guitarist {but also plays folk, covers, originals, etc}. and we spent quite a bit of time with Parkening before a concert we had at our church years ago. Truly talented, and a great guy.. That's great Sioux, he is my all time favorite classical guitarist, I seen him at Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto in the 80's, his interpretation of Bach's "Jesu, Joy Of Man's Desiring" is like the heavens opening up to me, fantastic! & his playing of well known Christian hymns are beautiful. " http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KHk_JNVpvw" This is my attempt to try to play like him, but don't come close, the date is on the video. " http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HYncD9ojfc" HOS, that is wonderful! I notice you recorded it on my birthday, way back in '93. Yeah, my husband has played Jesu in a lot of weddings. Another GREAT guitarist, and musican/writer/singer who we know is also a Christian artist, but he was also in Glass Harp. Phil Keaggy. Wonderful guy and I just love to hear him play/sing. My husband was pretty nervous when he had to open for him! He's opened for a lot of people, including Dave Mason, and I think that one was a bit nerve-wracking too. He was SUPPOSED to open for Steve Howe {Yes}, but Steve is pretty insecure and he was afraid he'd be upstaged. And, he probably would have been. He's a good enough guitarist, but not exceptional. So, we just nicely sat and listened, met him afterwards {and I had him sign a few albums}, and I didn't mention that my husband was supposed to be his opening act... Thanks Sioux, back around that date I made a video of my playing for a Xmas gift for my Sisters (they all older then me) it included Easy listening, Hymns, familiar Classical Guitar pieces, etc, in those days it was VHS tapes, for years I wouldn't put it on Youtube, but a few suggested I should so I got the nerve up & did it. I'll have to look up Phil Keaggy on Youtube, I never heard of him before, another C. guitarist is Rick Foster who is Christian, he transcribed "Jesu, Joy" for C. Parkening, but I feel he isn't as good player as a lot of others, especially Parkening.
