Your guilty pleasures by favorite bands

Some on this board admit to enjoying the Eagles (not me).  What I'm talking about here isn't that perverted, but it IS about liking some cheesy songs by solid artists.  Name yours!
For me, I like:
Streets of Love
To Love Somebody (Flying Burrito Bros)
Only a Fool (Black Crowes)
Winning Ugly
Old Habits (Mick)
Most of the Primitive Cool album

As a Dylan fan, I'm definitely in that group who loves 'Self Portrait'....and while its maybe not 'cheesy', I love his gospel-period music as well (with the exception of 'Saved' - the songs were good live (his live shows in 1980-81 were fantastic), but the album's a dud). Still cant warm to the Christmas album yet, however.

I can listen to Self Portrait once in a while, and it's very enjoyable.  I admit I'm a fan of "Slow Train Coming," I really can't see how a fan of his could hate it, especially with Knopfler laying down some fine guitar work.  As for Christmas albums, "Run Run Rudolph" is the closest I'd like our boys to get to that genre - see Aaron Neville's Soulful Christmas for an example of the typical bad holiday album.

IMO there's nothing cheesy about 'To Love Somebody' - Burritos version or the original.

And I'm with Gazza on Dylan's Christian stuff.
'I Believe In You' is one of my favorite songs ever, by anybody.

Sinéad O'Connor's version puts a lump in my throat every time...

I would like to nuzzle you - IBIY is beautiful; gives me that TINGLE, and when MK bends those bluesy notes during the outro, it's pure bliss.

I also forgot to mention LZ's last album, I kind of like those synth-hard rock songs like I'm Gonna Crawl and In the Evening.

'In Through The Out Door' is definitely one of my favourite Zeppelin albums. Probably the one I still play the most. Part of the reason is possibly the fact that I couldnt really get into them until around 1979 and then that record came out.

Elvis' gospel albums are another personal favourite. I wouldnt say theyre 'guilty pleasures' because they were pretty much well-regarded when they came out but a lot of people who think that Elvis died after he went into the army dont seem to 'get it'. I can make a strong argument for enjoying  a helluva lot of his stuff actually - the only real exception being the soundtracks from his '60's movies.

The way I see it nothing is a "guilty pleasure"

Any music that moves you- I don't care who sings it or how Celine Dion cheesy it is....is just pure pleasure.

I can listen to Pavarotti and Bocelli, just as easily as the Stones and Dylan

And even some of the Eagles songs aren't so bad if someone else is singing them....... Cheesy

OK,I like the Eagles I'll admit. Sue me. I also like Don't Stop by the Stones. A song a lot of people don't like. But I'd rather listen to that than Start Me Up or Miss You. Shit!

I agree. There's nothing I like music-wise that I'd be embarrassed to admit. Hell, I even like some Eagles songs sung BY the Eagles - like "The Last Resort" from Hotel California. I was brought up on classical and opera, and have an appreciation of everything in between. The Beatles and Stones hit these shores when I was 7 years old, and I fell deeply in love with rock and roll. From there I learned all about the blues and other American music. It's all good as far as I'm concerned.

Good points.  I shoulda titled this thread "Songs You Dig That Are Held Mostly In Low Regard" - I'm not GUILTY about liking "Halloweenhead" by Ryan Adams, but I know I'll catch flack for it, all in good fun of course.  Just don't mention "Anyway You Look At It" in this thread, please...

"Slow Train" was the first new Dylan studio album that came out after I became a big fan, so I was able to like it on it's own merits without any preconceived baggage about what a new Bob Dylan record 'should' be like. I think the problem some long-term fans had wasn't so much the religious content but the 'fire and brimstone' nature of their delivery. Didn't really equate with the 'don't follow leaders'/'you don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows' mantra that many of them had subscribed to for so many years.

Being subjected to drone-like hectoring about Armageddon in between songs at the concerts that immediately followed it's release can't have helped matters either.

Ha ha!

Great thread....good music is good music, whether it's Sinatra, Tony Bennett, George Gershwin, Bach, Mozart, Art Tatum, Otis Redding....when it's good, it's good. Smiley And yeah, music is a subjective beast. What moves one is good in one's eyes. Music is the universal language.  Cool
