is getting old.....

but I refuse to say rock and roll is dead.  Maybe the groups we grew up with are dying off and on their last legs, but I will forge ahead looking for the next Bruce Springsteen, Mick Jagger (Brandon perhaps?), and Dylan.  I will go see these old guys that turned me on to music any chance I get and I most certainly will continue to seek out new groups that maybe have just a glimmer of what it takes.  I'll drag myself with my cane and without my hearing aids to go see them- for this is what will keep me young.  I will not sit around and long for the old days..

This last decade was not a creative one for the Stones.  Maybe those years are all dried up for them.  It was a great touring decade for them however, especially the Licks Tour.  Play your entire catalog you old geezers and for god's sake leave the damn Vegas act behind.

There's only ONE Jagger and ONE Dylan. Everything else is derivative, to one degree or another. Go back to Rock and Roll 101. Do NOT pass Go. Do NOT collect $200!

Oh now don't get your panties in a bunch. Yes there is only one Jagger and one Dylan.  But if I live longer than the two of them, I am sure gonna look for some young "wanna be" to listen to (actually there are a few derivatives out there already)! Wink

The point i was trying to make is that rock and roll just does not have the influence it once did. Once upon a time it changed peoples lives. It affected events. It has been the major cultural influence of the past 55 years (except for technilogical advances/inventions). But its very limitations are so evident now.

Once it was the focal point. Just watch as it becomes more and more marginalised. Give it 5 - 10 years, and rock will be relegated to low rating niche stations like swing, easy listening 50's & jazz are now.

There are no new Stones, Led Zepp's, Ac/Dc, Who or Beatles. Like i wrote earlier, some DID crop up, but they soon die off. The closest thing is U2, and i think they are heading into Stones territory circa 1989. Which is - the people will come and see you, but wont care about current music. There last album was a flop by their standards.

But i will cling to the Stones because even their worst crap is preferred by me to most anything else.

I challenge all of you to create your own reality. In my mind, in my home, it's Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, Dylan, Black Crowes, John Lee Hooker, B.B. King, Stevie Ray, Chuck Berry, and plenty of blues and jazz all day, every day.

I don't need new Dylan or Chuck. In my circle of friends and family, emails and phone calls and conversations happen DAILY about the Stones and these other artists I've mentioned.

I also have Sirius radio which caters to my likes. At any time I can switch to a station featuring one of the above musicians if I program my radio to do so.

It's only rock and roll....you know the rest!

So what you are saying Steel Wheels, is that you will secede from society and live your own imagination? Sounds a bit like Pete Townshends "Lifehouse".

Fair enough too! I found a great channel by clicking on the microsoft radio station icon that for some reason was on my favourites list. I guess it's there by default. They play only songs from 1969. I started school that year, so i can re-live my childhood!!

I'm not saying to live your imagination, but rather create the world in which you want to live. If you like rock music, listen to it. Jazz. Go for it. Do not settle. Find something you love and love it. Make the most out of it. Imerse yourself in it 110%.

I have no idea who is on the radio these days. They are all the same and I'm completely out of the loop. I wouldn't know the bands and singers at the top of the charts if they walked into my home and performed their singles. Now if Mick and Keith showed up, that's a different story. I got room for Charlie's drum kit. Move that in and we're talking.

The Stones ARE. They are a current band, they are making current music. They have not become a nostalgic act for me. People will argue with me. But for me, in my reality, it might as well be 1969 for as fevered as I am over this band. I want new albums, tours, songs, quotes, tee shirts, pictures...I want it all. Don't stop. Keep it coming. Stones continue to captivate me.

For all the setlist-whining that goes on around here, I gotta say that last tour I got to hear everything I wanted with the sole exception of "Let It Loose," including You Got The Silver, Wanna Hold You, Connection, Rocks Off, Worried About You, Paint It Black, Love Is Strong, Ruby Tuesday, Heartbreaker, The Worst, She's So Cold, She Was Hot, Out Of Control. Live With Me, Sway, Far Away Eyes, Little T&A, Rambler, Under My Thumb, Just My Imagination, No Expectations, Can't You Hear Me Knocking, All Down The Line, Ain't Too Proud To Beg, and Loving Cup.

Not too shabby!

How many shows did that take you?

Either 7 or 8 - I'd have to go through my ticket stubs again.
And SOMEONE - ahem - needs to update the setlists pages around here!  Cool
I'm salivatin' for a tour! I wanna show off my new Keith bracelet!
