No, no, no! Acting? Why do these types always feel they have divine entitlement to dabble in art forms other than their own? Ronnie is a musician – an average one at that – not the next Tony Curtis. Fucking leave it alone, Ronnie.

Ronnie Wood – I Feel Like Playing

by Jeff Woods | September 30, 2010

Explore Music

...

Ronnie Wood has been a member of the Stones since the middle of the seventies. Whereas Mick Taylor, albeit an incredibly melodic and gifted guitarist, didn’t quite ‘fit’ into the fold that was the Rolling Stones, Ronnie fit like a glove. Still does.

Ronnie Wood also happens to be a sweetheart of a man I finally had the pleasure of sitting across from last week in New York City.

We were scheduled to meet at the Stones’ place of choice whenever they’re in New York City (I’ll have to leave you guessing on that one), at 4:30pm.

Ronnie’s manager called near noon, to say ‘Ronnie’s been invited to lunch with Obama and Clinton’. Being bumped by two Presidents was a first.

As the beautiful New York afternoon wore away, I wondered what kind of shape a guy, who’d spent the afternoon in the company of celebrity and politics, lunch and drinks, would be in by the time we met up for the interview – and at 8:15pm that evening, I could not have been more pleased with what I found.

Here you go, a conversation born out of the fact that Ronnie Wood’s new album ‘I Feel Like Playing’ was released September 28th 2010, featuring guest appearances from:

Slash
Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top)
Kris Kristofferson (hero)
Bernard Fowler (Stones backing vocalist)
Daryl Jones (Stones bassist)
Jim Keltner (what a drummer!)

And songs by Ronnie, Bob Rock, Paul Hyde, Eddie Vedder, Kris Kristofferson and more.

Part 1

Part 2

Excellent interview... Smiley

I heard the album, only songs I like are Why You Wanna go,etc/Lucky Man & I don't Think So (would have sounded better with Mick singing it, sounds like a Stones song) make it for me, I don't like the version of Spoonful, taking a Blues & making it sound like Funk don't do it for me, the most dumb lyrics I heard in a long time is Catch Me, "Like a fish on a line, I'm not doing so fine"
Ronnie, don't give up you're day job.

Not a bad album, "Lucky Man" is "Saint of Me" Part2 music wise, so that's not a bad thing. I like "100%" too. Nice thing is that you wouldn't know there are "guests", a problem on "Slide on This".

At least the guy can write a song, unlike say...Mick Taylor or Bill Wyman or Nicky Hopkins to name but a few who complained that Mick and Keith stole their songs, especially the first two.

Ronnie's album debuts at #164 in the UK Top 200 Albums chart this week selling about 1,100 copies. It's his first charting album in UK.

The album also debuts at #20 on the Independent chart, viewable here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/indiealbums

Let's see if he can make the US Top 200 too, his last charting album there was 1234.

I guess I'm biased because I am a big fan of Ronnie's music from all parts of his career, but I dig "I Feel Like Playing". The lyrics may be simple, but they're real and reflect on what the rollercoaster of Ronnie's life has been like these past few years. It's rocking, soulful, laid-back and bluesy. Some fantastic guitar work from Ronnie and Slash, beautiful backing vocals from the great Bernard Fowler and Bobby Womack and the infamous keys of Ian "Mac" McLagan. It's a feel-good throwback to a better time in music history.

Today is the first chance I've had to listen to the interview with Ronnie by Jeff Woods.  I thoroughly enjoyed it.  He was enthusiastic, articulate and charming.  And I'll bet Jeff Beck was more than willing to offer guitar lessons to Ana.  Ronnie appears to be a very likable talented man.  It's wonderful to see - especially in view of what he has put himself (and others) through the past couple of years.

I hope he continues with his painting and solo work.

Yes, certainly (much) more talented than the clown he's happy to play with the Stones...and the clown they're happy (most of the time) to have tag along.

Made me wince when he said he practically never heard from Keith when the Stones were not active, just a business at this point isn't it...

Wood Fears Finger-Healing Alcohol Will Be A Problem On Stones Tour

ROLLING STONES star RONNIE WOOD fears he'll struggle to stay sober when the band next tours because he even soaks his fingers in booze at shows.

The guitarist has revealed the rockers are planning a "summit" this December (10), when they'll talk about the possibility of a 2011 tour, and he's already thinking about how to look after his fingers in between shows without pouring alcohol in a bowl.

Wood has been battling the booze for many years and now is clean and sober after an intensive fix of rehab.

But his best efforts will face the ultimate test when the Stones hit the road again.

He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "You usually shred them (fingers) in rehearsals and spend the tour healing up. Soaking your fingers in vinegar helps... (but) pure alcohol is the best toughener.

"If I used alcohol, I'd end up drinking the f**king saucer I put it in."

Just another tabloid story intended to put Ronnie in a bad light. I'm sure whatever it takes on another tour,Ronnie will be well supported in his non-drinking battle. Fuck you Gazza, Will ya?

Actually I think this finger soaking story is TRUE! Finger licking good! Such temptations are everywhere though, and the tour is going to be a major binge-drinking trigger for Ronnie, he's fvcking worried already. That's a good thing though, Ronnie is resisting temptation now, off the road, but on the road is another story altogether. Can he keep sober on the road? He's pondering this question.
