I really don't know why everyone is so up for this. From what I've read in the papers, his financial situation looks dodgy. Otherwise, why would he be renting a house rather than buying one? There also seem to have been reports about his money problems over the years. Combine that with his reported drinking and drugs problems, this tour looks like a recipe for disaster. My opinion is that he's probably looking to make cash to plug financial problems while also having a blast drinking the nights away with girls. Remember this is a solo tour with no Mick and Jo watching over him like they were apparently doing on Stones tours. The guy needs serious rehab not a continuation of his current life. I think that Stones tour announcement was a public warning and it looks like he is doing exactly the opposite. I'd rather see him treated and healthy than digging his own grave.

I hope Ronnie has so much fun on his solo tour that it continues well into next year, if you know what I mean!

this is def. a retaliation type tour announcement... he reminds me of pacino in the scene in scareface, say goodnight to the bad guy... i wish him the best... but really, he better be great, anything less and he looks like an even bigger as than he already is.

Dont think theres a prayer of this happening until he's had a few months of rehab. Nor should it.

The whole thing smacks of hopeless optimism, to be honest. No doubt when his album comes out (and theres still no release date even though it appears to have been finished) he'll want to do something to promote it, but I'd imagine he'll do a TV appearance and a couple of gigs as he did when 'Not for Beginners' came out in late 2001.

Ronnie has a habit of having nice ideas that sound great in theory but which never seem to come off -

- saying at the start of the BTB tour that the Stones would probably put put another album by the end of the tour and that fans could expect albums every 18 months or so from now on

- suggesting that the theatre shows on the Licks tour might contain classic albums being played in full, such as an 'Exile' night

- claiming after the success of the 'Ronnie Wood & Fiends' show at Drury Lane in March 2005 that he was going to do something similar at the venue on a monthly basis. Five years on, there hasn't been another one.

- The Ronnie & Rod 'You Strum and I'll Sing' album which he's been talking about making for what must be a decade now

- The Faces reunion tour. Seems to be a 'certainty' to happen every year now when the Stones are inactive.

If there's any truth to all this, hopefully it'll give him something to focus on once he cleans himself up, but I wouldnt be holding my breath for it happening.

All this talk of a Rolling Stones tour with a brand new album this year??

Well yes, that would be great but when? where? how?

I mean these guys do not seem to be working on it much? They are scattered across the globe mostly it seems. Charlie is busy with his live thing.  Ronnie's in London shopping or who knows doing what (that's a real mystery in itself anymore). Micks on vaca most of the time. Keith is mostly MIA or in Connecticut relaxing...

They aren't even in the same country as one another that we hear of. Sure the Pro-tools remote sharing/recording of demos is a possibility but ....that's just not how The Stones "work". They normally work on these things face to face. It's not The Stones style (although they do go cutting edge in situations) on this type of thing to do it that way. I don't think it would produce as good of results this way for them.

Unless they have alot of things already worked out and worked on some how....I do not see any progress towards an album yet....

Another Ronnie dalliance with fantasy. Won't happen. If the Stones might not get insurance for Ronnie who would cover him independently.

Naturally I have. But "who" released this so-called statement from the band? Nothing on RS.com about it at all ....and that is their official website. If an official statement regarding the band was to be announced it would be on there Gazza. It's not...

As well, who releases a statement saying a group is "not" planning on touring?

You know what I mean....

...oh by the way ....here is an official announcement hot off the wire from an official representative of The Rolling Stones...."The Stones aren't planning on touring this year....sorry everyone....".

Seems kind of odd you know. I am taking it with a grain of salt.

"Who" is Fran Curtis, the band's publicist/spokesperson.

If you're looking for timely news from the Stones official site, keep looking.
The most recent item on the "Press Releases" page is over two years old.
FWIW, the statement regarding Charlie's "retirement" also didn't merit an update.

But - you can get these there:

Roll Eyes

Fran Curtis released it. She's the Rolling Stones press agent in the US. It was done primarily to quell rumours that they were playing Glastonbury, and quite possibly to side track the press speculation that Ronnie's ongoing problems were going to lead to him being replaced for an upcoming tour.

rs.com dont put this kind of information on their site. They're nothing more than a merchandising wing. There's NEVER any news worth a damn on that site and never has been.  I'd have thought that would have been quite obvious to anyone by now. They didnt deny the story that Charlie was leaving the band either (which Bernard Doherty, the band's P.A. in the UK did) - so by your yardstick, I presume that story was true as well.

Ronnie Wood swears 'I don't drink any more' as he steps out with ANOTHER young female companion

By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 6:39 PM on 25th January 2010

He was only single for seven weeks, but Ronnie Wood's indescribable charm is continuing to attract young ladies.

The Rolling Stones guitarist, 62, stepped out with not one, but two, pretty twentysomethings on Saturday night as he club-hopped around the West End.

One is thought to be his new girlfriend, the other a friend.

Despite his high-spirited demeanour, the ageing rocker told photographers 'I don't drink any more'.

...
Date: Ronnie Wood arriving at 100 Club on Oxford Street with a woman thought to be his new girlfriend

Wood started off the night at the Ivy Club in Covent Garden to attend businessman friend Nick Candy's birthday party.

He then moved on from the private members 100 Club in nearby Oxford Street, where he acquired two companions.

The new girlfriend is believed to be the brunette is leather jacket, jeans and suede boots.

They all ended the night at the Automat American brasserie in Mayfair.

When he finally left there in the early hours of Sunday morning, Wood was clearly in a good mood as he gesticulated in the street for paparazzi.

Despite his upbeat mood, Wood insisted he wasn't drunk.

He said: 'I don't drink any more. I don't drink any more.'

Wood has fought a high-profile battle with alcoholism for years and checked into rehab several times, the most recent being July 2008.

The couple ended up in a drunken row in the early hours of December 2, which ended their 18-month relationship.

...
Good mood: Wood declared 'I don't drink any more' to photographers

Since splitting from Ivanova - 41 years year his junior - last month, Wood's latest companions are the third and fourth women he has been seen with in recent weeks.

At Christmas, he was spotted drinking with a mystery brunette named 'Camilla' at J Sheekey's fish restaurant, and enjoyed a three day fling with Russian PR girl Hannah Kamelmacher two weeks ago.

Kamelmacher told the Daily Mail: 'He was a gentleman throughout our time together. We watched a couple of movies, went for a meal and went to the snooker.'

But the 26-year-old ended their brief fling after declaring it had been 'a very challenging couple of days'.

Ivanova, who was recently evicted from Celebrity Big Brother, had already split from model boyfriend Dan Turner after a few weeks together and is hoping to continue her reality show romance with Swedish DJ Jonas Altberg, aka Basshunter.

Meanwhile, Wood's bandmate Keith Richards has reportedly quit drinking under strict instructions from his doctor.

Richards, 66, hasn't drunken for four months after his hedonistic lifestyle of the past few decades finally began to catchup with him.

A friend told The Sun: 'He has always quite enjoyed the fact that he seemed to be able to carry on drinking as much as he liked with no real negative impact on his health.

'But he has watched Ronnie fall well and truly off the wagon last year and he doesn't like what he sees. Plus he has started to feel for the first time like it might do him some good to give up the booze for a while.'

Then again, he doesn't drink any LESS either.

Richards, 66, hasn't drunken for four months after his hedonistic lifestyle of the past few decades finally began to catchup with him.

Hasn't drunken? Here in the USA we say "ain't dranked."

Ronnie Wood’s still jamming away

RONNIE Wood put his marital difficulties aside for a few hours on Saturday evening to concentrate on what he does best.

Looking fit and full of energy, Wood unexpectedly dropped by Oxford Street’s 100 Club to enjoy a gig by soulful rock diva Lynne Jackaman and her band St Jude.

After listening politely for a few minutes, Wood leapt onto the stage, grabbed a guitar and jammed with the band for a few songs before posing for photographs with delighted gig goers.

Wood, drinking water and looking more sober than many in the packed venue, was clearly delighted to get back on stage, if only for a few minutes.

And no, he has not been watching Celebrity Big Brother, whose housemates included his former girlfriend Ekaterina Ivanova until she was booted off.
