Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood will not appear on the upcoming series of genealogy show Who Do You Think You Are? as a result of his complex heritage.
The 71-year-old musician has a family tree made up largely of ‘water gypsies’ who lived on canal barges.
Wood has even said in the past that his generation of the family was the first to be born on dry land.
This complicated, multi-stranded lineage has reportedly created a headache for show bosses, who have not been able to sift through all of the material in time for the star to appear in the new series.
An insider told The Sun: “With Ronnie’s colourful relatives, who can be traced back over 300 years, there was too much to be able to work through in time for this year’s series.
“They’re still determined to see if they can bring together what they need to make a show all about the Wood clan. But if it happens it will have to be next year now.”
Wood, a father of six, is on the verge of resuming the No Filter tour with the Rolling Stones after a health scare for 75-year-old frontman Mick Jagger.
The postponed dates have been rescheduled up until the end of August.
The next series of Who Do You Think You Are? is already set to be a star-studded one, with TV personality Mark Wright and Oscar winner Kate Winslet already confirmed to appear.
More than 100 episodes of the ancestry programme have aired since it debuted in 2004, with audiences regularly surpassing six million viewers at its peak.
The 16th series of Who Do You Think You Are? will air on BBC One later this year.
