Another little statistic that may be of interest :
These figures represent a career total of US ticket sales - this does NOT include extras such as merchandise, etc.
#1....Rolling Stones.......$1,737,000,000 #2....U2........................1,298,643,000.....tour break (resumes June 2010) #3....Bruce Springsteen..........1,146,718,925 #4....Celine Dion...........1,017,000,000 #5....Madonna.................990,427,000
In 2009, Springsteen became only the second act to pass $1 billion in ticket sales for the US. However, U2 overtook that figure before the end of the year
The Stones' figure will probably never be topped. Realistically, only U2 have a prayer of reaching it. And that is highly unlikely. Another world tour on a similar scale to the last one will almost certainly see the Stones pass the $2 billion mark.
When you consider that the Stones' offshore tax arrangements mean that they only pay about 1.5% in income tax (whereas any other UK earner of a similar magnitude would be expected to pay around 40% tax) and the cost of their tours are largely underwritten by corporate sponsorship, it makes their ticket pricing system sadly even more inexcusable.
