OK, this may be a stupid question, but why do you guys think the fact that Ronnie is behaving like an idiot could have anything to do with the Stones' future as a band?

I mean, I can see how his alcoholism could affect the band, but what about being stupid enough to hit a woman? How does this relate to the Rolling Stones exactly? I mean, obviously it's ridiculous, but I don't see the link with RS.

Most definitely my friend.

The way I see it, we are nearing the end of the fabulous ride. Sad We all know that.

Another Tour is already tenuous at best (Charlie's reluctance to continue/Mick's solo projects/Keith's arthritis and OWN alcoholism). They don't seem too interested as evidenced by the lack of any activity in so long.

They aren't going to replace Ronnie. It won't happen, imo. Too late in the game.

This could well be the nail in the coffin. And really, I guess we cannot blame them.

Tears are now welling up in my eyes....

LJ.

Huh?

Another tour is already being planned and Mick hasnt had ANY solo projects now for several years.

I don't mean a solo album, but more his other interests with films and such.

And WHERE IS THERE ANYTHING OTHER THAN SPECULATION that another Tour is beng planned???
We've heard nothing concrete HAVE WE???

I WANT to believe you, G. Have I missed something???

I wasnt just referring to solo albums. What other 'projects' has he been involved with since the last tour ended? None that I can see. So I can't see how he's doing anything that would detract from any involvement with the Stones.

The 'Charlie quitting' story has already been dismissed as garbage as well. Which it is.

There's nothing 'concrete' about a tour purely because thats the way these people do business. They dont announce anything until things are signed, sealed and delivered. However, as you well know, a tour doesnt just materialise out of nowhere around the time they do their regular publicity stunt in New York to announce it. Things kick in several months before that. And THAT isn't speculative.

The Stones will be touring in 2010. I've no doubt about that. This time next year I'm sure your wallet will be a few grand lighter once again and you'll be quite happy about it!  Wink

THE FACT THAT 2 MEMBERS OF THE BAND ABSOLUTLEY SUCK AT WHAT THEY DO HAS WORN ME DOWN...THEY CAN'T REPLACE RONNIE CUZ KEITH WOULD MAKE IT TOO DIFFICULT FOR THAT PERSON TO FIT IN AND ACTUALLY PLAY THEIR INSTRUMENT..

I hope you are right. Keno says the same: start would be around the fall of next year, then all the way up 2012, when the Stones turn 50.

I'm not that big of an optimist, I don't see them tour the world for 2 years again. Personally I think we should all be very happy if we see the occasional gig at obvious locations, with Ronnie. If the tabloids got this story right and the Stones want to continue, there's only one replacement.

Well, you won't get it this Christmas, but I'm sure by this time next year we'll have more exciting and happy stuff to talk about in this particular matter  Wink

There's no doubt in my mind these guys will tour again. Absolutely no doubt.
You see, I think it has reached a point that if they were to quit, they'd have done it by now. This point of time came and went, and they're still here. Now the only way we're going to see the end of the Stones is when God forbid one of them kicks it, so....  Ouch! At least one more tour to go!

LOL... Well, I said a 'few grand' meaning that knowing you, you'll probably go to a few shows and travel a bit. I wasn't implying the TICKETS would cost 'a few grand', although there'll always be some fuckwits who'll pay that just to say that they did it.

I dont think you'll need to be buying kinky underwear just to  help fund your Stones habit for a while yet.. Smiley

Definitely a lot less shows for me next time. It just isn't financially feasible anymore (well, it never really was, to be honest!!) and its going to take an enormous change in their M.O. re: prices, venue sizes and setlists for me to change that attitude. (Then again, I say that every time and end up going to double the amount of shows I originally intended to see......)

I still wouldn't miss seeing them at some stage on a tour, though. It'll definitely be Europe only, however. The high prices and increasing chances of shows being cancelled with each successive tour (often for spurious reasons) have made a transatlantic trip simply too much of a risk.

I dont think they'll do a 2-year tour in the way theyve done before. If they do, maybe it'll just involve less shows and more downtime between each leg of a tour.

The Stones dont do 'occasional gigs', unfortunately.  There have only been three occasions in the last 40 years where they've performed concerts which didn't take place at a time when they were on tour

Knebworth 1976 (two months after their Euro tour ended)

El Mocambo 1977 (two shows taped for a live album)

Oshawa 1979 (two short 45-minute sets performed as guest appearances at Keith's CNIB benefit gigs)

That's it. Unfortunately they seem incapable of functioning on anything but the biggest scale possible.

IVANOVA 'WON'T PRESS CHARGES AGAINST WOOD
'RONNIE WOOD's girlfriend EKATERINA IVANOVA is refusing to press charges against the ROLLING STONES rocker after he was arrested on suspicion of assaulting her, according to reports.
The 62-year-old guitarist was held by police on Wednesday (02Dec09) after allegedly choking Ivanova during a 30-minute heated argument outside a restaurant in Surrey, England.
Reports claim the star was drunk as he furiously pushed and shoved his Russian lover in the street - but the 20 year old doesn't want to file a complaint against Wood, according to Britain's The Sun.
A police source tells the publication, "Ekaterina was very distressed and had cuts on her knees from where it seems she'd been dragged along the street. But she was insistent she didn't want police involved or to press charges.
"Despite her refusal, witnesses allege this was a potentially serious assault and he may face charges in any case once the evidence is assessed. We're looking at allegations that at one point he had her by the scruff of the neck and her collar was so tight she seemed to be choking."
Ivanova's mother Irina, who lives in London, claims her daughter is recovering well after the altercation, insisting, "My daughter's doing fine. She is a good girl and a brave girl."
Wood was released from police custody on Thursday (03Dec09) after posting bail.
He split from longterm wife Jo in July last year (08) after his fling with the waitress was exposed.

Ronnie spent the night in jail. That is fvcking sad. I feel sorry for him.
Cry

Why do you feel sorry just for HIM? IF the reports are accurate, dont you think he just may have deserved it?

Well I feel incredibly SAD for RONNIE because he has let himself spiral out of control. It IS SAD that a man who has 'it all' is going down hard. In a way I love RONNIE and when you love someone, you always want to see the good side and support them, and never give up on them even when it looks like they have given up on themselves. I wish there was a way to help him, but we all know that first step is getting and STAYING sober. If that doesnt happen, there is no saving RONNE, he has already lost so much. My observation of alcoholics is that when they get this out of control, they mostly dont remember what they did when they were drunk, they black out and then dont really know how badly they behaved. Jo always forgave Ronnie and maybe she kept things like this quiet. She protected him where as Kat is trying to get him to do things for her so she can and will use this as leverage. RONNIE better be careful or he will end up with nothing, and alone. Thats why I'm sad. I'm not saying it isnt his fault. It is. But it's a damn fvcking shame to see him unravel.

Lost all respect for the guy now, dragging a 20 year old by the hair down the road is not on.
He has hit the self destruct button for sure, now we wait on any news about another tour even closer than before.

To me this has nothing to with his ex- or Kat,its him,no one is to blamefor him hittting the self destruct button.
This younger woman might of course want go places and do othet things his ex might not wanted to go.
But no excuse for his behaviour.
Like i said on another post,iv lost lots of respect for Ronnie.

Yeah I'm sure everyone has lost respect for Ronnie. Me too! But I still love the guy and want to see him pull himself out of this mess. It IS possible to recover, and I blame RONNIE and the liquor/substance abuse, not Kat or Jo. It's all on Ronnie. Many people will say 'go to hell' and I bet MICK is worried about the Stones 'image' that this will have done some permanent damage to the Stones. Not most of us, because we are loyal beyond the norm, but the average fan may not want to buy a ticket to see the Stones after this incident.

Yep. Thats all pretty true. Hard to help someone who doesnt really seem to want to help himself, though. I'm amazed Jo put up with that for so long. I can't imagine many other women would.

More importantly from a band perspective, whilst no charges have been brought at present, if something happens and he does get done for assault, I would imagine that potential tour sponsors could well not want to touch the band (he'll also have to be medically insured for a tour, and if his health deteriorates, then thats another problem with regard to sponsorships)- and additionally, he may have some problems with visas etc if he has a recent criminal record for violent conduct.

Whilst I've no real doubt the Stones will tour in the near future, either or both of the above worst case scenarios could end up making the rest of the band's decision about what to do about him a lot easier...and if it means them potentially losing millions in revenue, then I've no doubt they literally WOULD drop him like a stone if it came to it.

Shades of 40 years ago when they had a big US tour coming up in 1969 and dropped the band's founding member due to a combination of potential difficulties with him getting a visa due to a criminal record and also because of his increasing unreliability.

A few grand???
GULP.

Time to start turning tricks cause I'll be there no matter WHAT it takes.

All I want for Xmas is to see The Stones one more time (that's going in my tagline)

Can you imagine how we will all feel to see them hit that stage again???!!!!!
No one will scream louder or cry harder than me!! And GTRM!!!! Oh and SV......etc, etc.

LJ.

If you want to go to as many shows as you did last time, you will need to be ready to throw at least 10,000 down... those $500 tix will be close to double that, and then add in per diems to travel ect... 6 plus shows, right? Like I did... double the cost easy. I'm not even considering going outside of my state... Dallas, San Antonio, Houston or Austin and that is if I even will go at all...
