I hear you all - so I throw my vote to Black and Blue for balance, though those 8 tracks are slim on Wood.
If you love "Beast of Burden" as I do - well, there's two ballads in that key on Black and Blue.
And strong ballads from Goats Head Soup through Tattoo You are what define that era and link the Taylor-Wood periods, though nobody was planning that at the time, except Jagger for writing them and Keith for latching on wonderfully.
I think the poll as it stands today is proportionally right, though I prefer Bridges to Bang, and wouldn't sympathy-vote for Undercover or Dirty Work. Dirty has a great sound and feel, murdered by too many venal or boring songs.
Black & Blue 16 (10.2%) Some Girls 61 (39.1%) Emotional Rescue 16 (10.2%) Tattoo You 26 (16.6%) Undercover 6 (3.8%) Dirty Work 4 (2.5%) Steel Wheels 5 (3.2%) Voodoo Lounge 7 (4.4%) Bridges to Babylon 6 (3.8%) A Bigger Bang 9 (5.7%)
Voodoo Lounge is better than Bigger Bang (and Bridges) too. Steel Wheels is better than Bang.
1 Some Girls 2 Black & Blue 3 Tattoo You (still very hot at 3) 4 Emotional Rescue (for old time's ache) 5 Voodoo Lounge 6 Steel Wheels (but the tour was better than the VL tour) 7 Bridges (tour also better than VL tour) 8 Dirty 9 Undercover 10 Bang
I listened to Bang inside and out for love, but there isn't a single song I want to hear right now compared with the other contenders. OK - "Out of Tears."
