The morning line cabbage is on Some Girls at about 2-1, we'll put Tattoo You as the second pick at 5-2, Er is 3-1, but if they get their drones to the polls, they may be able to steal another election....Vote early, vote often.....But dammnit vote. Other wise my next thread may be about Joey or Bon Jovi......God knows we can't take that. Perverted Mick

Good call Bitch, those 'Some Girls' lyrics are Mick at his sexist-lyrical-humourist best!

Looking at the List of the Ron-era albums, surprised myself by how much of them I love. Black and Blue - Some Girls - Emotional Rescue - Tattoo You are 4 bloody fine albums.

Voodoo, Bridges & Bang I still listen to a lot, even most of 'Steel Wheels'.

The latter-day stones output is greatly underrated methinks; so many fine albums.

I'd go for either 'Some Girls', 'Tattoo You' or 'Voodoo Lounge' as the Ron-era best.

Some Girls is somewhat overrated, IMO. It is a very good record, but I do prefer Tattoo You.

Wow 77 votes. That's more than every poll Satrbuck and TTM ever started. Combined.....But as expected SG is a clear leader at this point. The 'Scue supporters are not getting the vote out. TY has a slim lead for second.....and judging by the voting the Stones have'nt made a decent album since TY. Not a lotta love for any other albums since then. Not even Undercover. Are you fucking serious?

I hear you all - so I throw my vote to Black and Blue for balance, though those 8 tracks are slim on Wood.

If you love "Beast of Burden" as I do - well, there's two ballads in that key on Black and Blue.

And strong ballads from Goats Head Soup through Tattoo You are what define that era and link the Taylor-Wood periods, though nobody was planning that at the time, except Jagger for writing them and Keith for latching on wonderfully.

I think the poll as it stands today is proportionally right, though I prefer Bridges to Bang, and wouldn't sympathy-vote for Undercover or Dirty Work.  Dirty has a great sound and feel, murdered by too many venal or boring songs.

Black & Blue  16 (10.2%)
Some Girls  61 (39.1%)
Emotional Rescue  16 (10.2%)
Tattoo You  26 (16.6%)
Undercover  6 (3.8%)
Dirty Work  4 (2.5%)
Steel Wheels  5 (3.2%)
Voodoo Lounge  7 (4.4%)
Bridges to Babylon  6 (3.8%)
A Bigger Bang  9 (5.7%)

Voodoo Lounge is better than Bigger Bang (and Bridges) too.  Steel Wheels is better than Bang.

1 Some Girls
2 Black & Blue
3 Tattoo You (still very hot at 3)
4 Emotional Rescue (for old time's ache)
5 Voodoo Lounge
6 Steel Wheels (but the tour was better than the VL tour)
7 Bridges (tour also better than VL tour)
8 Dirty
9 Undercover
10 Bang

I listened to Bang inside and out for love, but there isn't a single song I want to hear right now compared with the other contenders.  OK - "Out of Tears."

1. Some Girls
2. Tattoo You
3. Bridges To Babylon
4. A Bigger Bang
5. Undercover
6. Black and Blue
7. Emotional Rescue
8. Voodoo Lounge
9. Steel Wheels
10. Dirty Work

Ten albums recorded in 35 years is a pretty poor return, it has to be said - and four in the last 24 years (half of their entire career) is pretty horrendous.

'Some Girls' is in the all time Stones top 3 albums for me, with 'Exile' and 'Sticky Fingers'.

Some albums may have been placed higher but for them sounding very dated now or being let down by a bad production style or mix (Steel Wheels and Undercover). The best SOUND on any Stones record were on the four albums released between 1976 and 1981 (and maybe on BTB). 'Steel Wheels' ranks surprisingly low despite having three genuinely great songs on it (Continental Drift, AHYS and (at a push) Slipping Away).

Black and Blue and ER are two marvellously recorded and superbly performed albums which rank low simply because they dont have that many good songs. Both are half very good and half mediocre.

I dunno - I think all 8 songs on Black & Blue are irreplaceable.  Can't attest to a great 8 on Undercover.  It sounds like it was recorded aboard the Concorde, the band suffering jet lag and ennui as the sunrise curved the horizon in an otherwise Mach 1 world.  Perhaps only the title track cuts "Melody" - and the latter song is like the highway blues drunk in a cabaret.

Ken Tucker reviewed Steel Wheels in 1989 and said it sounded like the Stones had cut out the middleman and recorded it in a bank vault.
