He keeps adding to his record number of covers. Must be close to 25 or more by now and of course we know there will be a few more down the road....

I didn't know Mick was on the cover of this magazine before?

I thought they dis-continued this booklet several years back. I see Bono and Bruce Springsteen there on the cover as well. They probably couldn't get the rest of The Stones so they threw these guys on there with him to fill in the gaps on the cover.

Are you serious? Huh

Mick's been on the cover of RS many times - alone, with Keith, and with the band.

And with Jack White, too:

...

The reason the other band members aren't on the cover of the current issue is because they weren't at The Hall Of Fame 25th Anniversary Concerts...

Got my issue of RS today.
Great articles and photos from the concerts.

Interesting tidbit about the planning of the shows and the potential involvement of the Stones:
"The first calls," says Jann Wenner, "were to Bruce and U2. And immediately, they said yes. They didn't hesitate." The next call was to Mick Jagger, who said that the Rolling Stones wouldn't be able to get it together for the shows. But he agreed to at least leave the week open. Says Wenner, "He said, 'It's too early for me to talk about it.' I told him, 'I'll come to you with an idea that is going to really work.'"

Here's a video of the cover shoot:

lol Yikes ..some of you thought I was serious. Naturally I realize Mick (as well as the other Stones) have been on the cover of Rolling Stone loads of times. I was being sarcastic at the fact that Mick and The Stones have made the cover of the most infamous music magazine of all time so very many times is all.

I know why the rest of The Stones were not on there this time as well. So I was just a jokin is all. Smiley

Beautiful thread.  Thank you kindly, Sweet VA.

But, I don't think Paul Hewson has enough cred to be on the cover with Mick and Bruce.

Like 'em or don't, but Bono and his band are in the RRHOF and headlined one of the 25th anniversary shows at MSG.

And Mick apparently thought him credible enough to sing with him at that show...

MJ also sang with Xtina Aguillera.   While dueting with MJ is an honor, it does not make Paul Hewson comparable to MJ, Bruce or Dylan, or Macca.

Its like comparing Obama to Winston Churchill or Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The difference with Aguilera, et al. is that they sat in with the Stones.
MJ sat in with U2.

U2 has arguably been the most popular band in the world for the last 20 odd years.
And Bono's won a Nobel Prize for his global philanthropy.

Bono gave the speech at Springsteen's RRHOF induction, and Bruce later returned the favor.

Et tu, Xtina?

Yes, I am well aware of U2's penchant for arena anthems.   I think U2 is a good enough band.   I like some of their older albums well enough.   I have seen them live about 4 times, and I have enjoyed their shows as much as I enjoyed my buzz.   They had the fire and the passion once, but it is long gone in my view.  Their professional comraderie with Bruce and Mick has not translated into unforgettable music for U2.   I also take Bono's self-promoting globe-trotting with a grain of salt.

They are a good band, and you're right, they had huge commercial success.   But, in my view, that doesn't make them historically significant.     I would further venture that Iggy Pop is much more significant than U2, and he doesn't appear to hang-out with Bruce or MJ.

Et tu, Lady Gaga?

You changed horses in mid-stream there, FG.
