It's great to see the main man back to doing what he does better than anyone else in the world and I hate to be negative but that version of Gimme Shelter was quite awful. I know the sound is shite on that clip and maybe if it's better, it will sound better, but it sounds terrible. Fergie really should stick to rubbish pop. I know U2 are massive and all that, but I've never like them. Don't know what it is. I know Bono is supposed to have this amazing voice and they are supposed to be a really tight band, but I don't really like the songs apart from a few exceptions and I don't like Bono's voice. Stuck in a Moment is one of the ones I hate. Mick has the ability to make the absolute shitest song sound good and I would listen to him singing just about anything, but I just can't get into this duet. The riff is going for a sort of Curtis Mayfield vibe but falls horribly short.

BAHAHA So true!! He has a tendency to show up at those kind of gigs. Strangest thing!

Wow, pretty exciting stuff, great to see the old geezer strutting around like it's 1973, seems like he'll be doing that forever...

Like others have said, this version of GS is really bad, actually it must be the worst one I've ever heard, what's with that stupid blues guitar pattern, is that Bono playing ?! Keith must have been apoplectic. The Edge plays like he's never heard the song either, how pathetic. We complain when the Stones play the records verbatim these days, but it's better than this.

There's a way around that. He could get his finger out of his ass and get on a stage with the rest of the band again.

No one else to blame but themselves here. If Mick's cameo went down a storm, think what a Stones appearance would have been like.

Unfortunately instead of living up to this 'greatest rock n roll band in the world' tag, they seem content to effectively cease to exist as a band for years on end unless there's a mega tour involved.

800 days without any Stones activity now. (Attending movie premieres don't count!)

Good point, even if it wasn't the full Stones they could have done it like for the NYC 2001 concert.

I guess they're playing it "rare" to cash in when they do the big tours...

I didn't take a close look at the line-up but oftentimes, the bands that participate in that kind of concert are bands currently on tour, U2 for instance.

ehh...
hate to be a Debbie Downer, but am i the only one tired of seeing the same old farts every year at this spectacle?
Bruce.... check....Bono....check, the obligatory hot, new band...check...
the older guys doing the obligatory warhorse.....check...
This thing has become the rock and roll version of a Friar's roast....clique-y, bloated, self-congratulatory etc...
Its the same thing every year.
It always just reminds of how old these guys really are...

A prolonged break after a very long tour is understandable.

The newest chapter is gonna be written soon enough...

Oh - and Mick looked pretty good on this night, but Keith really looked cool on that award show thing he did with Depp.

Of course, Ronnie is still chasing that 20-something Russian peekachoo - not sure if he has it together for a new tour or not.  He could use the cash though...

Gotta say, this is perhaps one of the single worst performances by either Jagger or U2.

Christ on a crutch... the singing , the band - utter shit.

You're confusing the MSG concerts with the RRHOF induction ceremonies.

These shows aren't an annual event.

I know, but what's the difference...?
I'm sure the Friar's Club had a few big golf tournaments every once in a while.

Just a little reminder for everyone in the US with HBO that the highlights of the two Hall of Fame anniversary concerts are being broadcast TONIGHT.

On a related note, PBS is running a show featuring clips from different RRHOF induction ceremonies.

OutStanding Concert  !!!!!

Simon & Garfunkel was a major highlight ---- and Springsteen !!!!!

B.B. King can sure play a mean guitar ----- if Chuck Berry & B.B. King can do this in their mid - eighties then Mick & Keef will be touring well into their nineties . Word .

Good show.
Jagger was the show stealer.
Enough of Bono already, but the Edge impresses
Bruce was very in the moment.
Very good solos by Miami Steve
Could they have miked Clarence's sax solo during Jungleland?
IMHO missing that sound ruined the song.
Jeff Beck was magical in each segment.
Sam Moore was on.
Bonnie Raitt only gets better.
One CSN song was enough.
Garfunkel looked great, Simon looked aged, they both sang terrific.
Simon needs to get back out there.
Do you think Buddy Guy's guitar was loud enough?

All in all a good show.

A fun show to watch and it was very well produced and sound on my system was top notch..A few comments:

*Jeff Beck on the Beatles medly showed his genius and overall gets my MVP (his lil gal bass player is amazing too)
*Springsteen closed the broadcast and was his usual perfect stage prescence and band hit on all cylinders
*BB King and Stevie Wonder age so gracefully and were simply great
*CSN and Simon Garfunkle segments could have been shorter
*Metallica played their asses off but Ozzy was a joke and Lou Reed seemed lost
*Aretha belted out some great tunes and her voice was on....but Annie Lennox was a waste of a plane ticket
*U2 seemed to get a less than star status crowd roar although they played well enough
*Mick was one the the hilites of course and Fergie hung in there very well..Did anyone notice the Stones guitar teck between the Edges amps playing just off stage during Gimme Shelter? The guy wearing glasses that tours with them and looks a tad like Clapton??

Anyway it was a great 4 hours and I enjoyed it and hope everyone else gets a chance to see it on a DVD if they don't have HBO.....

Pierre de Beauport, you mean? He's Keith's guitar tech. Haven't seen the broadcast, of course, but your Clapton description would suggest thats who you mean.

That was The Edge's guitar tech, Dallas Schoo.
He was prepping the Gibson Explorer that The Edge played on 'Stuck In A Moment'.
