I can't make up my mind as to whether I fully believe her or not. And it isn't because of some weird fan thing with John Phillips. The Mamas and Papas were long gone before I knew rock n roll was more than mom's Elvis and Buddy Holly records.

What I can't get past is why tell the known universe something like that? I understand talking to the ex wives and her half sister. That would make perfect sense. Close friends, perfect sense. But going on Oprah, GMA and the Today show to have a public cry and talk about her dad wanting her to run off to Fiji with him? And he isn't around to defend himself. Even with a book to promote, why would anyone want to have themselves and their father remembered more for this allegation than anything else?

And let's say it is true. Is going through the public scrutiny worth whatever vindication she may feel?

It's just sad all the way around, no matter what the truth is.

This does belong in a psychiatry office. For one thing, John Phillips is not here to defend himself.

Also, this certainly is an interesting time to reveal this "fact'. She's releasing a new book and I think I heard yesterday she'll be on Celebrity Rehab.

Beautiful women throw themselves at Mick. And, Mick has great taste in women. It doesnt make any sense that he would be even remotely interested in mackenzie.

I understand what she is saying, b/c I too experienced drug addiction and incest in my life... I wasn't ashamed of the sexual experience, I was ashamed b/c I enjoyed it after I it became routine and often and then, later, when I knew better I didn't do anything about it or stop it!!!
People who get to hear that message right now, who are in the grips of that shit right now or have lived with it in silence for a long time, may be helped. This has nothing to do with her Dad... He was a sick man too, like many, he was at one time possibly a victim, and went to the grave with his shame and guilt. She's is carrying a postive message, you just do not see it, take it into account when you approach this topic, much easier to judge others, than discern the truth of ourselves!!!

I'm not sure if you have noticed, pdog, but at least 50% of what is written on this board is nothing but judgement! I suppose you are the most capable to state an opinion here. And you're obviously passionate about the subject, and that is good.

If that was me, I wouldn't put it in a book for the entire world to read. But then I didn't experience all the demons she did fight with in her life. So, perhaps after living a lie for almost all of your life and carrying a secret around with you during your entire adulthood ( I mean, it must surely feel like a ton of metal on your shoulders), the book has been a catharsis for her, a liberation. Perhaps that makes her feel alive for the first time. To me it seems like an absolute horror, to become famous and loose my anonimity.

I blame Oprah Winfrey.

I understand, believe and respect what you are saying about the effects of the various forms of abuse on children. Nevertheless, just because mackenzie said he did it, and Denny Doherty's daughter said he did it, that does not mean he did it.

In the United States we are presumed innocent untill proven guilty, and are entitled to a fair trial, and to face our accusers face to face in a court room.

I am not saying he did it, or he didnt do it. All Im saying is maybe it would have been better left in the privacy of the psychiatrists office, or at the Survivors meeting, rather than all over the media, as he is dead, and unable to defend himself.

The truth is, if he did not do it, these are absolutely horrible accusations.

Unfortunately, because there seems to be so much commercial incentive at this time, with the book and appearance on Celebrity Rehab, the profit motive appears to be accompanying the positive message she is trying to convey. The appearance of profit motive is clouding the issue.

you're assuming she is doing this for profit... think about what you're saying... it should be left in a doctors office, don't they make money off this misery? Yes, and who is to say this isn't more healing? This has nothing to do with guilt or innocenece from my POV... it is about incest and drugs and what can happen... It really seems like the one thing, that seems to influence opinion is the fame of these people, they're just people, if this wasn't a dead rock star, would you feel the same way?

Yes I would. Every US citizen, the famous or the salt of the earth, is entitled to the same rights and is innocent untill proven guilty. I had a cousin who developeed PTSD as a result of brutal and physical beatings at the hands of his stepfather. I now take care of his two sons as he commited suicide fifteen years ago. Child abuse touches so many lives, it has a "multiplier" effect.

I feel sympathy for mackenzie, but child abuse is such a horrible crime, if John was innocent of incest, now half the people are going to believe it whether its true or not.
Not that he had much of a reputation, but now........
