i don't who this guy is, but this is the it!
this song has eluded me for literally decades....
that opening chord was so sublime and i tried every which way...
but i should have known that, being Keith, it would be this simple.
its keith's soulfulness that makes him so great.

My favorite Stones song of all time: lost love, pain played to a great soulful riff that just keeps soaring....

the perfect example of Mick taking a song from Keith's basic riff and turning it into something so musically sublime and emotionally complex.

To really get it precisely, you should probably play the B triad in the seventh position, like he does, but mute the fifth string and play the bass note with your thumb. Also, rather than playing the C#m in the fourth position, trying it in the ninth: x-x-11-9-9-x. And then do a hammer-on from an E (x-x-9-9-9-x) to an A (x-x-11-9-10-x).

Maybe I ought to take the plunge and put something up on YouTube. ... Still don't have a Facebook account. I figure, by this point, what would be the point?

Sublime is definitely the perfect word to describe this song. I got a kick out of seeing you play the opening on YouTube as well, Mel. Wish the Stones would give it a go sometime. Don't think I've ever seen them play it live.

excellent Mel,
you're doing the bass note with the thumb....
my problem was getting the full sound of the opening B - because i ended up in the same place.
but the hammer-on sound so fluid....
thanks.

When I heard those sweet opening lines of that song at Philly in 2002 I thought it was bliss.

that show is on "ronnie smokin" Pignose Records PGN 005.  I can't locate Pignose anymore. what happened to him?  I have practically destroyed the cd from overplay. its only on my ipod now.

Remember to keep your nose to the grindstone, your shoulder to the wheel, your feet on the ground, your eye on the ball, your ear to the ground, your finger on the pulse, your head on your shoulders, the pedal to the metal, a song in your heart, your hand on the helm and the bull by the horns
