So MT's quotes were made - off the record - more than ten years ago?

..yep, and twisted to make it look like a sensationalist tell-all done in the last week or so.

Doesn't really alter the fact that he still seems to have been severely fucked over, but it's another in a long line of examples of the Daily Mail twisting a story for their own ends.

That explains why there's no mention of his recent health issue and the resulting loss of income...

Maybe a reprint isn't such a bad idea - especially in terms of the recent health issues.  It was a violation of MT's trust to have his off the record comments printed, but a far greater violation to be loopholed out of legitimate income.

The Daily Mail's rep can hardly be lower that what it is already and the author will be hard pressed to have anyone else confide in him.

Mick Taylor threatens to sue over unpaid royalties

Ex-Rolling Stone Mick Taylor threatens to sue over unpaid royalties

Guitarist breaks his silence 35 years after leaving the band

Former Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor says he is considering suing the band for unpaid royalties.

Taylor played in The Rolling Stones between 1969 and 1974, and was replaced by Ronnie Wood in 1975.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the guitarist revealed that he hasn't been paid any royalties since 1982, when the band signed a new record deal with CBS Records.

He added that he now regrets not instructing a lawyer to seek continued payments for his playing on albums including 'Sticky Fingers' and 'Exile On Main Street'.

"I should have got a lawyer," Taylor said. "But instead I called them rude words and asked how they could just stop paying me."

He added that he is still keen to address the issue now.

"They all know it's not right. In fact it is outrageous. They get all the money and I get the plaudits and praise, even from Mick [Jagger]," he said. "I've tried to talk to Mick a couple of times, but I realise that hiring a lawyer is probably the only way they'll take me seriously. But they figure I'm not going to do anything about it."

Taylor added he now plans to formally contact The Rolling Stones about the unpaid royalties: "I'm going to do something about it because it’s morally wrong to cut my royalties for those six albums."

Elsewhere in the interview, Taylor stated that without his contribution to the band, songs including 'Sway' and 'Moonlight Mile' wouldn't have existed.

"Let's put it this way – without my contribution those songs would not have existed. There's not many but enough, things like 'Sway' and 'Moonlight Mile' on 'Sticky Fingers' and a couple of others," he said.

"I should have got a lawyer," Taylor said. "But instead I called them rude words and asked how they could just stop paying me."

So it's taken him nearly 30 to realize this was not, perhaps, a sound strategy..

"Guitarist breaks his silence 35 years after leaving the band "

Howe ironic, considering a) it's not like hes never done an interview in all that time and b) he didnt actually talk to the Daily Mail anyway, but - as seen above - they chose to run a 10 year old off the record conversation he had with someone else and spun it to look like it was a recent exclusive interview.

There is no 'point', Lina - because there was no 'interview'.

Apparently it came from a private conversation he had with this journalist over ten years ago.

simple answer - $$$$$.

that, plus you can't really expect a journalist (in most cases) to have any scruples.

Mick Taylor denies he is to sue Rolling StonesGuitarist's management tell NME.COM newspaper reports are incorrect

September 15, 2009

Manager Jeff Allen said Taylor had been "horrified" to read the article in Sunday's (September 13) Daily Mail, adding that Taylor – who played for The Rolling Stones between 1969 and 1974 – "doesn't feel any need to sue" the band, whom he still remains close to.

"He [Mick Taylor] certainly didn't say that he was going to sue the Stones. Mick's got a very good relationship with the Stones," Allen explained.

He added: "In fact, the last time we met up with them, him and Keith [Richards, guitarist] were like long-lost lovers – hugging each other and happy to see each other. When Mick was ill either six or eight weeks ago with some kind of chest complaint, Mick Jagger had his office phone up to see what was going on, and then he phoned up the hospital just to check on Mick because they were worried about him. So there's absolutely no animosity between Mick and the Stones."

Allen went on to strongly deny other aspects of the Daily Mail's article.

"You can imagine the shock, horror and disbelief when that article came out in the Daily Mail. The emphasis of the article was that Mick was some kind of run-down, down-and-out tramp living in Suffolk. The reality is Mick's having the house done up," he said. "Mick is living in Holland at the moment with his girlfriend."

He went on to confirm that Taylor's forthcoming tour dates in Germany and France are still set to go ahead as planned, and urged fans to check Micktaylor.net for more information.

.....and the next 2 money spinning projects..... Ya Yas and Exiles both have significant input from MT!  If he ain't getting royalties then I shall download without paying.   And I continue for 5 years now to constantly have Brussels Affair in my car CD player.  The truly incredible Track 2 Gimme Shelter might rely on KR's songwriting but MT's guitar work was staggering as in fairness was KR's too.  Without MT and Beefheart's Cooder input just maybe Keef might not have pulled em through that tough period of change.   They need to help MT despite what he might of done or said.  If MJ wants to use his economics experience he should grant MT an annuity cos it won't pay out much if MT keeps puffin them fags.   MT's only crime was to wreck the Stones permanently by allowing RW in.

Unfortunately, the Mail have a bit of a track record for this nonsense.

A particularly vile one was in July 2001 when they 'exclusively' quoted George Martin as saying that 'George Harrison realises he's going to die', at a time when the severity of Harrison's condition wasn't public knowledge - using a headline that seemed like an enormous betrayal of confidence on Martin's part. In reality, Martin had done a lengthy interview, which barely touched on Harrison's health and he had answered a question on the ex-Beatle's health by saying he was doing quite well, but is philosophical, adding something like 'he realises he's going to die sometime at some point like we all will', without even having hinted that George was dangerously ill. They cherrypicked about 20 words out of an interview which contained about 600 words and pasted it together to make it look like Martin was publicly announcing that Harrison was on his death bed.

Loathsome bastards.

Gazza:

1. printed pictures of his home without his permission
2. printed blatant lies about his financial position and his desire to obrtain money from a former employer which may have been under contract not to state
3. defamed him by putting words in his mouth about needing money that were not permitted to be quoted giving him an image of neediness that will hurt his career
