For what the heck ever it is worth .... Undercover.com.au, the website that initially said Charlie was quitting The Stones now posted a comment from the Stones rep Bernard Doherdy, who was speaking with Val King, a correspondent from Spin earth ...another music based website, in response to stifling the rumor about Charlie quitting in which the rep states that The Stones are working on their next CD...in which he could mean currently?

(Hmmm....I thought The Stones were all in separate places over the globe for the most part lately ...still Keith says he and Mick have been face to face so who knows...maybe they are sifting through things in the can for the neext CD as well while sifting through stuff for the new Exile jaunt or possibly maybe they did meet and start something brand new on it at some point).

Stones rep Bernard Doherdy's comment appears both ...as The Stones could be taken they are currently working on the CD or perhaps are simply "planning" on another CD. However it does to me seem more to the point of "currently" working...  hmmm...interesting. His exact comment is listed below:

“I can tell you that Charlie isn't going anywhere. They have the 50th anniversary coming up, are working on the next CD, and planning tours," he said.

Here is the link to the full story :http://undercover.com.au/News-Story.aspx?id=9173

*Remember now, this should be taken with a nice grain of salt being as this website was the one that initially started the rumor. However, you would think THIS TIME they would have all their ducks in a row before publishing anything more in relation to the story.

Just a quick note is all.

They're not 'working on a new CD' - Keith himself has said that he hopes for it to happen 'next year'. A bit of hyperbole on Doherty's part, unless he just means they're both working on songs.  Besides, these days you dont even need to be in the same country as someone to be collaborating on a recording with them.

It was good to read Keith saying that he and Mick had got together to put some input into the Exile reissue (makes a change after the Live Licks, Rarities and Biggest Bang farces when they left the completion of the projects to other people) - can't imagine that listening to a few old tapes would take up much of their time, though.

Well Gazza, here we go again. Actually we do not know what they have done. Mick and Keith had been spending time together, face to face, in a recording studio .....and we had absolutely no friggin idea.... Who knows, they could of spent a couple weeks together. They could of already wrote a dozen new tracks for the album. We do not know.

My guess is Mick, Charlie, and Keith have been discussing song ideas, discussing the album, the production style etc. etc. ya-da, ya-da, ya-da. I also think by now they have a very definitive plan of the recording schedule and time frame in which they are to work on it. I do not think they all actually been in the studio together to officially record any of it with proper staff and a producer. I do think they have been putting things into motion on it though with a definitive plan in mind. It IS September and by now, The Stones schedule track record for the past 20 years had them with songs written and had been writing together for an album the following year by this time.

Do I think they are recording together right now? ...no. However I am sure they have it all laid out before them and have already spoke and exchanged some songs ideas, production style, schedule etc. etc. I do not think it is as little as "oh, I hope to record an album next year with everyone". I am sure the wheels have already started moving. We are into September now. If they are using a producer he will most likely have to be contacted and informed of the general production time frame. It is music, but it is also big business.

Quite sure it isn't as little as them all just saying to themselves ...."oh I hope we can all do an album soon".

Ian -
When's the last time M&K actually wrote something together?

Hasn't their MO been to bring stuff they've written to the studio and have the collective "Stones" it up?

The last time they did an album. July and August 2004. They sat in Micks living room, with an acoustic guitar and piano and wrote tunes at Micks house for A Bigger Bang. It was just them two for a while. In time Don Was, and the rest of the staff and rest of the band started to gather at Micks. They chose to record much of it right there. This is factual and well stated by both of them as well as Don Was and Charlie, and Ronnie. This is what made A Bigger Bang.

So Keef shares the blame for 'Streets Of Love'?
I don't think so.

Charlie had an excused absence.
He was being treated for throat cancer.

As for Ronnie's comments, I though they were mostly of the "dunno, I wasn't there" variety.
He's MIA on a bunch of ABB tracks...

Rolling Stone quotes Keith as saying the recent "face to face" was for the 'Exile' project.

Had they actually worked on new tunes, Keith would've likely teased that in conjunction with “I’m trying to gather the boys together. One way or another, I’ll get them back in line.”

In all seriousness, I think the Voodoo Lounge sessions were the last example of true collaboration. The key there was the generous amount of time they gave themselves to deliver an album.... And I don't mean time between releases; I mean time allotted specifically to working together.

ABB ~ Keef states on a video that he likes the song Streets of Love VERY MUCH and enjoys playing it! So obviously it isnt all one sided decisions made by MICK. I can guess if KEEF doesnt like a song, it is not included on the album and goes to MICK's solo projects.

Sort of like when Keith says, "I can tell you, 'Undercover of the Night' ain't gonna be on" Forty Licks, and of course it ends up on there.

Not necessarily true, I'd imagine - and the same would apply the other way 'round.

I cant think of any more than one song that was left off a Stones album and which later appeared on a Jagger solo album (Lonely At the Top) - and even then, it was probably just left off Emotional Rescue because it wasnt finished.

Actually not really. You'd be surprised. Keith has not agreed with several tunes (the production of Might As Well Get Juiced, Saint of Me) or how their production sounded yet he agrees to leave them on. I think Keith gives Mick Mick more slack nowadays, so a major, major riff doesn't happen and cause another 1980's feud. He compromises more now. But yes, Keith has not liked several songs, and/or the way they sounded since the 80's and they have appeared on albums. He has stated reference to these songs in interviews. Just thought I'd throw that out there is all.
