I do think, however, that Charlie is doing some "posturing" with his partners about touring and that is where the supposed "insider rumours" are coming from.
That does seem like a very likely explanation for the roller-coaster ride of the past two days...
I think Charlie's always been difficult to convince to get on the world-wide tours and all. And who can blame him, he's been doing it for all his life and he's not twenty years old anymore.
Another 'take' on things from a poster on IORR based on info he claims to have sort of alludes to that. If its true, it also pretty much gives credibility to what some people on both 'sides' of the argument are saying.
Basically, his take on it is that Charlie
hasn't quit, but HAS told his bandmates that if he's going to continue, things HAVE to be scaled back (which suggests to me no more megatours lasting 18 months to 2 years etc). If the Stones do that, he's in - if they don't, he's not interested. So, effectively he's passed the decision on his future over to Mick and Keith.
If thats correct, it vindicates the statement from Charlie and the Stones office that he
hasn't quit, but at the same time it also gives a bit of credibility (albeit with a different spin on the words used) to Cashmere's story about him not wanting to do another big tour. It's just that it isn't as black and white as the 'Charlie has quit' camp appear to be suggesting. And as the Stones haven't formally announced ANY plans to tour and probably WON'T do for some considerable time, then they would really have all that period to decide what their medium to long term plans will be as a performing unit from mid 2010 on. At the minute, it's somewhat apparent that they do INTEND to tour in 2010 at some point, but what format that tour will take is probably still to be decided.
Plenty of time to come up with some arrangement that'll keep him on board AND see the four of them together on a concert stage somewhere in 2010. I've little doubt that they will do that.
