Its a masterpiece - this was before the Clash' Sandinsta, before jackson browne etc....discovered Nicaragua.
If you knew anything about what was going on in Central America at the time, this song had real relevance and power.
No one was singing this little country before this and then it became a trendy leftist subject at the upper east side dinner tables...
and what set this song apart is its cautious outsider's view...
jagger is, in a way, romanticizing the revolution, but without sanctifying the Sandinistas:
its almost like a warning....of going down the same path to totalitarianism, to becoming 'same as the old boss...'
It's fucking brilliant and for those who didn't get it, too bad because its one of Jagger greatest, most original and daring songs.

that's one of Jagger's greatest deliveries...

Worst song on ER by a mile. Toe-curling in parts, although the horn arrangement is pleasant. Good lyric, although Mick's 'affected' vocal puts me off. I've just never been able to get past that.

I prefer Fiji & Starbuck's version. Honestly.
