REGISTER STAFF • JULY 17, 2009

Gordon Waller, one-half of 1960s British Invasion duo Peter & Gordon, died today near his home in Connecticut. He was 64.

The duo shared the pop charts with the Beatles and other influential peers in the '60s and scored hits with songs by John Lennon and Paul McCartney as well as a cover of Buddy Holly's "True Love Ways."

The following message was posted today on Peter & Gordon's official www.myspace.com/pasherandgwaller site:

We are deeply saddened to report that some time after 8 p.m. last night East Coast time, Gordon Waller went into cardiac arrest and was taken to the emergency room. Despite intensive efforts on his behalf by hospital personnel, Gordon passed away early this morning. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

One of the duo's most recent performances was in February at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake as part of the "50 Winters Later" concert and related events in tribute to the 1959 Winter Dance Party tour and the deaths of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. "the Big Bopper" Richardson.

“What rap did that was impressive was to show there are so many tone-deaf people out there,” he says. “All they need is a drum beat and somebody yelling over it and they’re happy. There’s an enormous market for people who can’t tell one note from another.” - Keef

Very Sad, R.I.P. Gordon.
How can anyone not remember in '64 "Please lock me away" first line of World Without Love, I especially loved their version of "True Love Ways" & "I Go To Pieces"

Another death? Fvck! Wow that's sad.

I saw Peter & Gordon perform at Beatlesfest a couple of years ago and he did a meet and greet with the fans, signed autographs and chatted up the crowd. He was a very gracious man, and sweet as can be. RIP!
