i wouldnt dismiss them so quickly...

studio albums - meh.

live - they can rip. they are actually selling out stadiums near you in the US this summer. live recordings can be found here...

oh, they are big stones fans and do a few covers, most noteably would probably be "loving cup" (whcih they have been doing as an encore a few times this tour...

LOL, I would not say I'm a hippy. But, I am very open minded/adventurous about music. This week, I went to a yard sale and came back with-Phish Undermind (CD/DVD) & Round Room cd, Art Garfunkel "Some Enchanted Evening cd, Barenaked Ladies everything to Everyone cd/dvd, Beyond the Sea (Kevin Spacey seengs Bobby Darin cd) and a Shania Twain dvd. Now, I just need to find the time to listen to it all Wink

Phish are a talented band that can take their music to some very interesting places. One old friend of mind used to listen to a certain track loud on headphones until it built up into such a cacophonic frenzy he had to rip them off his head and fling them to the floor. If that sounds like fun, you'll love them. Much like Zappa, however, they don't hold much melodic interest for me despite a lot of musical talent and sardonic wit. I own a few titles, but frankly rarely listen to them.

Comparisons to the Dead are mostly superficial as well.
