Sorry!! By accident I deleted the whole thread instead of just some fights, the thread is gone... I'm really sorry... please feel free to start a new one

The version of "Voodoo Chile" Live by Clapton/Winwood is so fucking great!

Jimi did it only a couple of times live... but Voodoo Child (Slight Return) a lot of times. Steve Winwood was in the first studio version, love this song, love this version

I never read the political threads, I have warned about it... enter at your own risk!

The more I read about politics and politicians the more I love my job, since I love it I don't need to read that thread.

The curious thing is that "political thread" is more popular than many 100%-Stones-Related threads! piss off

I believe that stat Voo.
I often wonder WHY some of the "political thread" junkies are even here as they seem completely uninterested in anything Stones-related. Especially the "newbies". Either we have a lot "old regulars" hiding behind aliases or RO is being advertised elsewhere.

Anyway, my original post which upset a massive feline was that Winwood doesn't seem to be playing any of his 80's solo stuff. That stuff was quite good & it's a shame that he's not playing any of it.

Has Sweet Charmed Life ever been to a show with less than ten thousand people and that didn't require $100+ advance tickets?

Talent is subjective, overrated and one of least necessary qualifications for putting on a decent show.

Yeah, but at least they're doing Forever Man.

This thread is doomed once I express my displeasure over the exclusion of Lay Down Sally.

what was so great about this tour is that we got to hear alot of great music that hasn't been for the most part been played for a very long time and certainly not in the way that they performed it together. personally if i didnt hear one track from behind the sun, august and journeyman ever again in concert along with lay down sally, wonderful tonight, cocaine, tears from heaven i probably would enjoy his solo shows alot more.........

We all fuck up some time ...no problem

I saw the show in DC and it was excellant. Steve Winwood's Georgia on my Mind was the hightlight of the show, although Cocaine and Layla were show stoppers also. I would highly recommend the show if you can get some tickets.

For the record, my next set of tickets are to see Eric Burdon & whatever band he has in September. I have to admit I have a real fondness for House of the Rising Son. Eric and the early Stones turned me onto the blues before is was really available in "white neighborhoods". I grew up with segregation and we didn't listen to the black radio stations in the US. The english bands, and particularly Eric and the Stones introduced us white kids to the blues. I still listen to it today and love it. Clapton's blues tunes were also great, but that;s just my opinion.  If you like the blues try Michael Burks or R.L.Burnside.

GO see Clapton/Winwood----Great Concert--9.5-- I leave the 10's for the Stones...

I saw Eric Burdon & The Animals @ Hippiefest, a great set in an otherwise lame show, Hilton Valentine was also there. Was going to see him a few weeks ago down the street from my mom's house but my sister's kids were there and they were starting to drive me up the wall so I cut the trip short and went home.

Khmer Rouge lawyer sees failures
By Guy DeLauney
BBC News, Phnom Penh

The tribunal has heard details of mass murder and torture
The international prosecutor at the Khmer Rouge tribunal has warned that the process is failing to make a connection with the Cambodian people.

Robert Petit said he was also concerned about political interference at the special courts.

The Canadian official has just announced his resignation after three years of leading the prosecution of former Khmer Rouge leaders.

He said his resignation was not connected to problems at the tribunal.

But at a news conference to announce his impending departure he outlined his concerns about several key areas at the special courts.

Failures

It's a very bad sign for Cambodia if any elected official thinks they have the right to influence any court process

Mr Petit said the tribunal had failed to explain itself to its most important audience - the Cambodian people.

The first trial of a former Khmer Rouge leader started three months ago.

But Mr Petit said that a lack of funding for outreach work had limited its impact on the public.

The prosecutor said he was also worried about the role of the Cambodian government.

WHO WERE THE KHMER ROUGE?

But Mr Petit says that shouldn't be a decision for politicians.

"It's a very bad sign for Cambodia if any elected official thinks they have the right to influence any court process," he said.

"By continuing - us, the court - to do our job, according to the evidence of the law, hopefully we can provide a counter-weight to that," he said.

Mr Petit is the third member of the international prosecution team to resign this year.

But he says his departure should have no impact on the progress of the trials as his colleagues have already taken over much of his work.

I saw the Chicago show and the Columbus shows.
Both great, in their own ways.  I had a better seat in Columbus.

Did *not* get to hear Low Spark!  *Did* get to hear Crossroads though.

Everyone who still has shows coming up, please enjoy, enjoy!

I'm here. Just rounding into shape. These school night shows are rough. But an outstanding show last night. What big fun to watch these two great musicians share a stage and their music. Clapton played as well as I've seen him in recent years. Making it look effortless. Winwood, though is the star of this show. Seeing him trade licks with Eric, then move over to the piano and organ. Good stuff. Small quibble,I would of actually liked to see Winwood play a little more guitar. But oh well. Highlights were a smoking Had to Cry Today to start the show. POTL and Glad were good. Pearly Queen smoked. The absolute highlight of the night was Winwood doing Low Spark solo on the piano. Even though I kept expecting the band to kick in. He managed to pull it off solo very well. The acoustic set was good. I don't mind my Layla acoustic. Heard it enough times electric. CFMWH was good. Voodoo was as good as advertised. the encore of Cocaine and Fantasy (and don't those two go together well) was a great way to end the night.

Doubling up on the star power doesn’t always translate to twice as good of a show.
Case in point: Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood’s co-headlining concert on Monday night at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, a much-anticipated event that failed to live up to the advance hype. Indeed, this one-two punch was far from being as strong as the solo shots each man has delivered in the Bay Area over recent years.
What a shame. This gig held so much promise – it was a chance to see two rock legends combine forces, and catalogs, for what should’ve been two hours’ worth of memorable songs. It was also the opportunity to hear Clapton and Winwood relive their time in Blind Faith, the late ‘60s rock super group that produced one eponymous album and a handful of great tunes.
Yet, it didn’t turn out to be a “greatest hits”-style show – for either artist. And it never felt like a celebration of Blind Faith, which makes sense since two members of the quartet (bassist Ric Grech, who died in 1990, and drummer Ginger Baker) weren’t onstage. Most troubling, however, was that the expected synergy between the two old friends never really materialized.
By the midpoint of the two-hour-plus concert, it seemed pretty clear that Clapton and Winwood didn’t really have a game plan for the evening. Sure, they had a set list – one bearing nearly as many problems as songs – but they apparently never reached a consensus on what they were trying to accomplish with this show. In lieu of that, they just meandered through both the years and their performances.
Taking the stage together, the 61-year-old Winwood and the 64-year-old Clapton opened the gig with the “Blind Faith” cut “Had to Cry Today” and then immediately followed with the J.J. Cale cover “Low Down,” which are also the first two tracks on “Live from Madison Square Garden,” the recently released two-CD set that documents the pair’s initial batch of concerts from early last year.
Thousands of eyes immediately turned to the overhead video screens – a regular occurrence at Clapton gigs – to watch the extreme close-ups of EC’s fingers working the frets. Clapton was, of course, a technical marvel to behold – so precise and concise in the way he fashioned the notes – but his playing felt particularly dry and rote for much of the evening. Second-rate “Slow Hand,” however, still beats whatever his partner can offer at the microphone or on rhythm guitar/keyboards, thus Winwood’s worthy contributions lived in Clapton’s shadow in Oakland.
The capacity crowd rejoiced with the third number, a fast-paced run through the Clapton hit “After Midnight,” which, thankfully, resembled the original recorded version instead of the slower rendition featured in those late ‘80s Michelob beer commercials.
The concert hit a lull during a somber double shot of “Presence of the Lord” and “Sleeping in the Ground,” but rebounded nicely once Winwood revved up “Glad,” the jazzy instrumental made famous by his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band, Traffic. Another Traffic jam, “Pearly Queen,” produced the night’s grooviest psychedelic moment, one truly worthy of 1969, but the high wouldn’t last long as the group soon ventured into an overly long unplugged segment that included Clapton’s easy-listening version of the once-great “Layla.”
The main set came to a remarkably anticlimactic close as Winwood reached into his mid-‘80s solo bag, and skipping over anything the crowd would actually want to hear, selected the dreadful “Split Decision,” which still sounds like a song written for the “Miami Vice” TV series. The seven-member band followed with an over-the-top cover of the Jimi Hendrix Experience classic “Voodoo Chile,” a seemingly appropriate choice (Winwood played keys on the original recording) that was manhandled through pointless jamming.
The players made up for some of the lost ground during the encore, bringing the crowd to its feet for the first time all evening with “Cocaine” and then making “Dear Mr. Fantasy” a reality. It was then, and unfortunately only then, that this show managed to live up to its potential.

Good venues in the LA area are the Redwood, the Echo, and Spaceland. The Scene used to be a favorite but they haven't booked a decent show in over a year.

Eric and Stevie were in great form from the opening notes of Had To Cry Today - putting huge smiles on everyone's face. The first four numbers they both played Strats. The sound quality was outstanding; a great mix with all voices and instruments coming through clearly and in balance. SW switched to a Yamaha grand piano for Sleeping In The Ground and didn't go back to the turquoise Strat again until the encore. He alternated between the Yamaha and the Hammond B3 with a Leslie "spinning" speaker except for joining EC on acoustic guitar for Layla and Can't Find My Way Home (another highlight).

All four of the old Blind Faith tunes were incredible, but for me the highlight of the show was Tough Luck Blues. EC's solo was one of the best I have ever heard, live or recorded, and I think a lot of people shared my opinion because it got a huge standing ovation. If there was any part of the show that was a little flat, it was the next two songs, Pearly Queen and There's a River. I would have preferred Little Wing or Crossroads; I'm really sorry they dropped the former from the set list halfway through the tour.

SW soloed on the Yamaha with Low Spark of High Heeled Boys, followed by EC's solo acoustic Driftin'. After three more acoustic numbers, crowned by Can't Find My Way Home, they cranked it way back up for Split Decision and Voodoo Chile. Overall, Voodoo Chile wasn't my favorite of the evening, but some of EC's guitar runs were unbelievable. Abe Laboriel lived up to his billing, both precise and intense, beating the living daylight out of his kit. They had to replace a tom-tom after Forever Man.

Of all the concerts I've been to over the last 44 years this one ranks as one of the very best. I had a big grin on my face when I woke up this morning and it hasn't gone away yet. I'll remember this one for a long time. Thanks to EC and SW for all the fine performances over the years and especially last night.

I sorta wanted to see this but it was obscenely expensive in a real lousy venue. Also the Chapin Sisters just added a show opening for Leslie & The Badgers and that would even beat out a free ticket to this. That was a great show and only $8.

Never heard them before, one of my friends favorite bands, the singer's voice was a bit too high pitched and twangy but the band was real good.

I go see them every chance I can get. I think I am up to 13 now.
