Given his much-publicized distaste for Sacramento, it's good to see that Gavin Newsom is finding ways to keep himself busy.

On his Current TV chat show this week, our Lieutenant Governor took part in an enlightening conversation with cinematic auteur Oliver Stone about where we might find the stankiest buds on the face of God's green earth.

SPOILER ALERT: The answer is California.

"We have the best weed in the world; I'm telling you from my own experience of 40 years," said Stone, who stopped by the show to promote his new film "Savages." "Vietnamese weed, Thai weed, Jamaican weed, Sudanese weed, it's all great stuff. But, because Americans are so technically minded (like mad chemists), they've taken Afghan seeds from the Afghan War, which is the hypothesis of the movie, and rededicated themselves and made the finest seeds in the world, the finest grass you can smoke."

Stop the presses! The man who made "The Doors" and posed on the cover of this month's High Times magazine smoking a joint is fond of drugs. It's shocking, we know.

Stone went on to slam the federal government's anti-drug policy. "This drug war is insane," said the Academy Award-winning director. "I know this first-hand because I was one of its first victims." "Savages," based on the best selling novel by author Don Winslow, is the story of a pair of drug-dealing buddies who get tangled up in a violent dispute with a Mexican drug cartel.

"I couldn’t agree more," replied Newsom. "I've been very aggressive and I'm proud to be aggressive as a sitting politician, not an ex-politician."

While Newsom has been a strong supporter of medical marijuana, decrying the recent federal crackdown on local Bay Area pot clubs, he's stopped short of supporting full-scale legalization.

Marijuana found in face-chewer's body, but no other drugs, medical examiner says

The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner found only marijuana in the body of the man who was fatally shot while chewing a homeless man's face over Memorial Day weekend.

The medical examiner's office said on Wednesday that 31-year-old Rudy Eugene's toxicology was complete.

"The department's toxicology laboratory has identified the active components of marijuana," the medical examiner said in a statement. "The laboratory has tested for but not detected any other street drugs, alcohol or prescription drugs, or any adulterants found in street drugs."

The department also ruled out common drugs found in the street drugs called bath salts, which authorities had initially speculated were the cause of the brutal attack on Ronald Poppo.


He has been recovering at Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center since the May 26 attack along the MacArthur Causeway.
Poppo was rushed to the hospital after he was attacked by Eugene, who tore off and chewed most of the 65-year-old's face, authorities said. He also suffered trauma to his brain, doctors said.

Poppo also had a couple puncture wounds in his left chest area.

About 50 percent of his face, including his forehead and cheek, was affected and he has an infection, brain injury and a puncture wound to his chest.


Eugene was fatally shot by an officer after he refused to stop the savage attack on Poppo, police said. Witnesses said a naked Eugene was throwing his clothes into traffic and swinging from a light pole shortly before the attack.

The medical examiner's department also got assistance from an outside forensic toxicology lab, which confirmed that there were no bath salts, synthetic marijuana or LSD in Eugene's system.

"Within the limits of current technology by both laboratories, marijuana is the only drug identified in the body of Mr. Rudy Eugene," the statement said.

The attack sparked a statewide crackdown on synthetic drugs and bath salts, with many South Florida counties and cities moving forward with ordinances to ban and restrict their sale.

Also on Tuesday, Gov. Rick Scott and Attorney General Pam Bondi held a ceremonial signing of House Bill 1175, which outlaws more than 90 new forms of synthetic drugs

Zombie Apocalypse: Texas Man Eats Family Dog After Smoking Fake Weed


Straight from the "what the fuck" files, we bring you the latest yarn from the ongoing Zombie Apocalypse. Today's installment comes from the great state of Texas, where police say a man ate the family dog after smoking synthetic marijuana.

Go ahead and let that sink in for a minute.

Michael Daniel, 22, was arrested near Waco yesterday after family members called police earlier this month to report that he was going berserk.

According to local media reports, on June 14, Daniel allegedly assaulted a few of his friends and neighbors while running around on all fours -- as he growled and barked like a dog.

Then the munchies set in...



Daniel then grabbed the family's dog, beat it, choked it, and then bit off chunks of the dog's flesh.

When police found him, he was on the front porch of the home with blood smeared on his face and shirt. He was taken to a local hospital to calm down.

Sadly, the dog didn't make it -- the animal died at the home following the attack.

Daniel was released from the hospital and taken into police custody yesterday. He's been hit with one felony count of animal cruelty.

As we've come to find out, synthetic drugs have a tendency to turn people into blood-thirsty maniacs.

Just yesterday, we reported on a woman who tried to eat a cop while under the influence of bath salts.

A few weeks earlier, for the second time in less than a month, a Florida man -- 26-year-old Charles Baker -- was arrested for allegedly taking a bite out someone, also while under the influence of bath salts.

About two weeks before that, a Louisiana man also is suspected of being under the influence of bath salts when he gnawed the face of his neighbor.

And lest we forget the story that kicked off the "Zombie Apocalypse" craze -- Miami "zombie" Rudy Eugene, who was under the influence of drugs at the time of a brutal cannibalistic attack that left his victim, Ronald Poppo, without a face. That drug, of course, was bath
salts.

The hype of the ongoing zombie apocalypse has become so widespread that the Centers for Disease Control even issued a statement last month saying that the "CDC does not know of a virus or condition that would reanimate the dead (or one that would present zombie-like symptoms)."


Given the recent spike in bizarre cannibal stories, we're chalking up the fact that Daniel didn't eat a human as a sign that the world's zombie problem is improving
