I am loath to report that my streak of 10,462 straight days of weeding has been broken. I did all I could do short of risking my white life by driving to the deepest part of the hood. I am here and very willing but the weed isnt. How in the world it is legal for me to go to a store and buy enough vodka(or some other horrible man made liquid) to turn me into a crazed killer but I cant buy a fucking plant that at worst will make me hungry and go to sleep in front of my TV is beyond me. What the fuck! It has become such a hassle I cant take it. Fuck fuck fuck.

There's no question that the Fagen/Becker duo came up with some revolutionary ideas at the time. Even in their early unpublished songs they still have an almost ethereal feel to them. They were also extremely fortunate to have come of age at a time when big record companies would finance huge projects like the ones they implemented. This would never have happened in todays bottomline world...

Record companies today would laugh at Fagen and Becker. As soon as they started talking about their eloborate plans and huge studio/musician budgets they'd be tuned right out. Music companies today want it cheap, they want it fast, they want to appeal to the easily amused, but mostly they want to make a fast buck off it. That's why they LOVE Rap, Metal, girl bands, boy bands, teenage strippers like Britney, anything that's fast and cheap to make that will turn a EASILY turn a buck. "Art" ain't got nuthin' to do with it.

And that's the frigged up times we live in, where true artists aren't seriously supported. You have a whole generation (perhaps two) who really know nothing beyond McDonalds and Burger King level entertainment. In the past they said "Art is dead", but I fear this time it really may be...
