I have failed us all!

today was "dress like your favorite celebrity" day as part of spirit week at school. besides spreading the word about participles and deponent verbs, i figured i'd inject some rock and roll into today's lesson by wearing my lennon "pepper" outfit. sadly, none of my first hour students save one knew who i was supposed to be. only one...out of 27. good lord in heaven.

i have failed them, haven't I? i shall take full responsibility.

while walking through the hall later in the day, two random students stopped me to comment on the suit. one girl giggled and asked me who i was. "are you kidding?" said her friend. "you don't know what he's supposed to be? were you born under a rock?"

"i'm sorry," she said. "but I just don't know."

"it's elton john, you idiot," the friend retorted. "you know...rocket man? hello? sheesh. get a clue."

oh well. at least the student was on the right page. another kid today thought i was cap'n crunch.

Bucky for what it's worth I feel your pain. I was talking to some of the cute 20-something year old interns at my station the other day. They asked me what I considered to be the greatest rock and roll album of all time was. Without missing a beat I said, "Are you kidding me?! That would be Exile On Main Street by a country mile!" They all looked at each other bewildered. Then one of them spoke up and said, "Who the hell is A Country Mile?"

For this latest effort by your young Joey was a MASTERPIECE -- Sap flowing from the roots of his creation .

Me arse this afternoon was a conductor's baton and general's staff . It shouted and cajoled and drenched everyone in sheets of sound -- and sometimes it had a touching , ethereal quality that is far , far removed from the tumult of a concert experience .

Indeed Some Guy , this was the kind of project that progressive Rolling Stones' Message Boards is all about -- all the facilities , imagination and talent have always been there , but rarely has your young Joeykins succeeded in distilling its essence and embracing a motif as convincingly as now -- this most prodigious of forums .

Like Wagner's ' Ring ' cycle , ...me shits are exhausting , but richly rewarding .
