Well I'll take your word Mr. Nanky (assuming you were with all your faculties)!!   Even if the itch gets scratched prior to a tour or even if Keith was talking from the wrong orifice....it gives a glimmer of hope to us all...

Did he say anything about writing songs for this one?

Seriously though - thats encouraging to hear, but why was he being interviewed by some Virginia radio station to begin with? It's not like it's something he does without any specific reason.

Yeah that does seem a bit odd. Keith is not one to just pop up at a radio station and say the Rolling Stones are going to tour.Plus why was he at a Virginia radio station? Doesn't he live in Conneticut? Seems he should have popped up on a NYC station if anything? Boring post

Great..!!

They should so do slave and play more old great rarities they have..! And they should really come up with something new and fresh ideas for the album and the tour. If they are going to stay on the top.

Oh ye of little faith!

It was 94.7 The Globe - around 9:40 am or so this morning.

I called the station to make sure I heard it correctly.

It was a clip from their guitarist "Keith Richards" from some interview.

Don't know when it was, but the station rep said it was recent.

He did not officially announce the tour - he simply said that after about eight months after being off the road (you math whiz's can figure out when that would be) he got the itch and then Mick got the itch and Mick called him.  The gist of the interview was that he and Mick had been in contact, were gearing up for some studio work with a likely tour to follow.  Typical Keith ambiguity, but given the dearth of anything solid of late, I will take it.

The rest of you can make of it what you will.

that dates it to around April 2008 - when they were doing the promo work for SAL. Sad

Nine months later nothing has happened and there's absolutely no inkling of any Stones activity in the near future (and April 2008 was a few months before the arse fell out of the global economy - skewering immediate touring plans even further)

Had this been from an interview in the last few days, it would have been encouraging. Unfortunately, it looks like we can safely go back into hibernation for the next few months.

People. Do I need to order a case of Tardrite helmets??
The Virginia station AIRED the interview. It is my understanding it was not an interview FROM VIRGINIA.

Logically, Keith could have been interviewed ANYWHERE and the fact that he mentioned Pirates IV is enough for me to believe this is recent.

We have already heard rumblings of a 2010 Tour.

I smell NO RAT at all. I smell  Better seen on weed!  Better seen on weed!  Better seen on weed!  Better seen on weed!

I don't know Gazza.

As pathetic as the DC radio scene is, this particular station usually gets pretty good information.
I doubt they would play this off as a recent interview if 8 months old already.

I could be wrong, but I think this may have traction...

If he was interviewed in April 2008, then the plans he's referring to would have been for 2009, not 2010. Its not like it would take them two years to make a record or plan ahead for a tour.

Everything since has indicated that there will be no Stones tour in 2009.

2010 has certainly been tentatively discussed as a reasonable chance for some months now, however

Seems odd doesnt it? And I dont doubt your word about how reliable the station usually is.

The thing is though that the 'we've been off the road for eight months' line comes from Keith himself, not the station, so that surely dates the quote to last spring.

I dont think Keith has done any press interviews since then and as he has nothing to promote at present, it seems a bit unusual that this quote would come out of the blue. Once in a while of course he might do an interview for some Stones special feature in a UK music mag or something, but there hasnt been any of those lately and I'm unaware of anything of that nature having just come out or being issued soon.

I'm hoping to get a chance to chat with Ian McLagan at James McMurtry's gig in 10 days time. Maybe I'll be able to prise some reliable gossip out of him regarding not only the Faces 'reunion' stories but also if the Stones will be working again soon.

Well, let's not be quoting Keith through me just yet.
He made reference to getting the itch after being off the road for eight months.
But you know Keith - not exactly the Atomic clock when it comes to timing.
That is why I called the station to try and date the interview, but they could only tell me that it was recent.

LJ brings up another point - I had not even heard of a Pirates IV until this interview -- and it is tentatively scheduled for a 2011 release.

Seems like that is more recent than 4/08.

Also, this same radio station also announced recently that AC/DC was swinging back through the area again.
That isn't even on AC/DC's website - so they seem to have some intel at this place.

Don't shoot the messenger - just have faith!

I did some more digging.

Here is a link to a story that has another link to an interview.
I cannot access it as I am not a member, but maybe someone here is.

The date in 1/9/09 and discusses an upcoming book "What Would Keith Richards Do" -- due out in May and clearly a must read and guide to the universe.

Well done, my friend!
It's like "Field of Dreams"
"If you build it and they will come" or, in the Stonesian case, "Roll a few and they will come".
