The album where Dylan temporarily lost his mind (but not his talent).

SOL is a lot more 'secular' than Slow Train Coming or Saved (the latter of which is the only one of the trilogy that I dislike).

SOL is definitely underrated. Some great music on there. However, like most Dylan albums from around that time, some bizarre choices of what to include/not to include on the album stop it from being an excellent record.

I mean, how the hell can any sane human being omit a gem such as 'Caribbean Wind' and relegate 'The Groom's Still Waiting at the Altar' to a mere b-side?

The shows from around that time (late 1980 - summer 1981) are amongst his greatest as well, and featured plenty of really good songs that never got an official release (eg 'City of Gold')

My only real problem with 'Saved' is that some of the songs were very good live, but the album simply didnt do them justice (as well as the fact that he didnt release some of the better ones...)

The tour was superb.  That was when I first saw Bob live (Providence Civic Center).  I have a boot with Jerry Garcia jamming with him a few shows later on that tour and the gospel tunes were BY FAR the ones that came across the best.  Dylan seemed indifferent then about his older stuff (not a surprise I guess).

Yes.... Jerry played with him during the run of 14 shows at the Warfield in San Francisco in November 1980. An incredible run of performances (I'd love a Bootleg Series release of those gigs)

I think I remember downloading a show from Providence 1980 on dime a couple of years ago, but I think it was a few months earlier.

Jerry joined Bob for a handful of songs at the 11/16/80 Warfield show:
To Ramona
Let's Keep It Between Us
Covenant Woman
Senor (Tales Of Yankee Power)
Simple Twist Of Fate
The Groom's Still Waiting At The Altar

The Swingin' Pig boot LP called 'Live Adventures of Bob Dylan and Jerry Garcia' isn't the full show, but includes all of the songs with JG.

Another Dylan record that was pretty good that seems to get lost in the shuffle is Nashville Skyline.
At the time I didn't know what to make of it as country music wasn't so cool then. At that time I didn't really like "country rock" or the Grateful Dead either.

I don't think so. But I also think that someone could make a valid case for that point of view.

One man's trash...

But if you really think 'BOTT' is Dylan's worst, you're either too drunk or not drunk enough.
