Have Any Of The Stones Took Music Classes? ...Ian

I know none of The Stones certainly never had any "serious" music lessons in their lives or for any longer period of time and certainly not once they became established but I was wondering if there were any music lessons at all taken by any of the boys during their lives?. Thinking it is possible one or two of them maybe may of took a class or something growing up? I mean actual "how to play a certain instrument" classes not simply a general music class in school. I know they are all self taught but still I was wondering if any ever had an actual instructional class on how to play something.

Anyone know of any?

Wouldnt think so. Nothing outside of the confines of general music class in school which everyone gets, but which wouldnt have been a subject given much priority.

Keith claims to have sung in the choir at the Queen's coronation in 1953. If thats true, he obviously would have had additional choir practice at school. Personally, I've always believed that to be another of his tall tales, up there with the mythical "When I first met Muddy Waters he was painting the ceiling at Chess Studios" nonsense.

I didn't think so but I wanted to make sure. They surely never needed those anyway (obviously right..)...music is in their blood.

Now about the choir story. I remember the choir teacher or someone in the school verifying Keith was indeed in the choir in an article but with a much higher voice.

Of coarse Keith's story was always he was in the choir until his voice cracked/changed.

As for me I am not sure? I do believe we go on to another place after death. Now, do I believe  ...ermmm .."John Edward", is actually speaking to the other side .... 65/35% says no, he is a phony in my opinion.

Seen some lousy cold readers in my day. He may be just one of the best out there is all. However I can't fully judge, I haven't spoke to him myself or dealt with him personally so you know, I cannot fully comment.

Mostly self taught, for sure. Brian Jones had piano lessons as a child--first, from his Mum, then from another teacher...but he "outgrew" them all pretty early. His Dad wanted him to be a concert pianist...

Did BJ play piano on teh early songs? I read once that Wyman came up with the JJF riff on the piano.

I know Brian played organ on early songs....."That's How Strong My Love Is" being one of them. When they mimed "Let's Spend the Night Together" on Ed Sullivan, Brian was on piano....Brian could play just about any instrument, to one degree of expertise or another. Some songs that he didn't record a certain instrument on {piano, etc}, he would perform on that instrument in concert.

I thought it was true that KEEF was a chior boy in school and was taught vocals, and had a boy's high voice until he changed into a man and had to quit the choir! I'm almost sure of it! Isnt there a pic of a choirboys with KEEF in it? I've seen it somewhere.

its not uncommon to be picked for the choir at school (happened to me..I sang 'Once in Royal David's City' at a 'compulsory' audition in a voice Lou Reed would have been proud of. Somehow, they picked me, which as an 11 year old trying to act the tough bastard in my new school didnt do my credibility any good. Fortunately, about two weeks later my 'balls dropped' and I was told that my services were no longer required....).

I'd believe the bit about Keith being in the school choir. Its the tale about him claiming to have sung at the Queen's coronation I have the problem with.

Especially considering he was 9 and a half years old at the time and attending a run of the mill primary school about 20 miles away.

Utter bullshit IMO.

yes G. i like Bitch I was going to say I had always given that one creedence particularly as it is reported (i think... i'll have to hit the books) in bockris and booth's biogs. - that doesn't necessarily make it true i know ..

your explanation sounds credible esp. given keiths' increasing penchant for embroidering the truth if not just talking flat out bull shit

That was one of the best....no, probably THE best interview on tape of the early Stones. The longest version I've seen is 9+ mintues. Great stuff! Smiley
