Surely one in the same Astoria.

Any other lyric references, or indeed an explanation to the second half of this one?

Doubt it refers to the same Astoria, Zack. Whilst its an old cinema (opened in the 20's), it apparently didnt become a music venue until 1976 (that lyric was recorded in 1972 or so).

Astoria is a pretty common name for a cinema in the UK - like Odeon, Regal, ABC, etc.

The first band to vomit in the bar, and find the distance to the stage too far?  Hmmm.....

I agree with Ade, it was a shite hole, I did see some good shows there but sadly not the Stones.

Oh well lets hope the Stones play the Shepherds Bush Empire on their next tour and we all score tickets.

Speaking of tearing down historical buildings.....

Tearing Down The Building Where Robert Johnson Recorded Blues

DallasObserver
By Pete Freedman in Music NewsMonday
, Jan. 12 2009 @ 4:40PM

508 Park Avenue, the building in which legendary blues man Robert Johnson recorded 13 tracks in June of 1937, could be on the verge of getting demolished.

Glazer's Distributors, owners of the property, have filed a permit to tear the building down. At this very moment, though, preservationists, who say Glazer's has not yet filed proper paperwork to tear down a historical landmark-protected property, are fighting to stop any such move.

Robert, of course, music fan and architect nerd that he is, has all the details over on Unfair Park.

The photo in that article indicates nothing in the surrounding area. They HAVE to tear down that 1 building?
