It's not that we want to hear the warhorses over and over but they will always play some of them for the audience members who have never seen them before. Us true diehards would love to hear a full show of rarities but it doesn't work like that.
yeah, but its YOUR personal 'proposed setlist'. Fuck everyone else. We may as well list all of those songs that have been played to death.
Personally, I have no problems with some warhorses - I'm always glad to hear Tumbling Dice and Jumpin Jack Flash.
the only setlist suggestion I'd like to see for the next tour is what the STONES want to play. They've earned the right to play what they want by this stage in their careers. There's hardly anyone on the planet who hasnt had a reasonable chance at hearing 'Satisfaction' by now.
Gazza, that's the problem. They are playing what Mick wants to play. Which is why we get crap setlists.....And Keith can't be bothered to give a shit about the setlist. So we're left with Chuck? as the man of the people.......
I'm not so sure. I think its more a case of them playing what Mick feels OBLIGED to play. He has given Chuck certain edicts - no more than one ballad per show, nothing from the Jones era that isnt a warhorse etc. I find it hard to believe that the songs Mick REALLY wants to sing are the same songs that he's sang over and over for thirty years and very little else.
The same Mick who on the eve of the last tour mocked the sort of casual fans thus "But I want to hear 'Brown Sugar' - well I dont give a FUCK what you want to hear! Listen to THIS, c**t " ("this" being 'new songs')
Serious revisionism from Mr Jagger in recent years. Either that or a lack of confidence in his own ability to work a crowd regardless of what he happens to be singing. Did you ever think you'd see the day where one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) frontman in history feels he has to pander and let the audience dictate what he should be singing?
Keith's lack of interest in pushing Mick to be more daring is a criminal abdication of responsibility. Unfortunately, it mirrors his lack of creativity in other areas and merely strengthens my own belief that the dynamic that drives the Stones these days is a combination of Cohl and Jagger.
the time for Keith - and the Stones in general - to claim their band back is long overdue.
