Damn you MoteFish, move that stuff out of the way.

That was a great read Noonan.  I like reading the thoughts of people who similarly know the truth we have all arrived at here on RO regarding Exile On Main Street by The Rolling Stones.

I know that and you know that. If you read "Up And Down With The Rolling Stones", however, you'll find that Tony Sanchez knows different!

Sorry, I thought I'd made that clearer, that it's one of the more 'sensational' claims made by "Spanish" in his book. (Which is still an excellent read, btw.)

I want to say how much I appreciate all you people taking the time to read my essay, and for all your encouraging comments. Thank you all very much.

since it was  only th e price of an average  bottle of red i bought Greenfield's a season in hell this last weekend

there is something, or should I say someone, new to add to passing parade of charcaters that crossed the stones path - right up there with Stash and  Sessler ( freddie?)- Tommy Weber -  aristo racing care dude - a cursory search shows no pics only  an obscure reference http://www.motorracing-archive.com/sub_page.cfm/editID/951 but  seems he was tight with keith & anita for awhile

actually the greenfield book is not too bad - nowhere near STP of course ...well so far - i am about one third through it  - a lot of stuff i've heard before but a few "glimmers"

I remember when Exile came out, in the new musical express, they included a demo record (45r.p.m.) that I still have, there's a recording of Exile on Main street, the strange street to walk down, etc, that The Stones allowed the magazine to include, anybody else knows about this?

i dont know where else to find it, but that track opens "i gave you diamonds.." which is, imo, THE essential exile outtakes collection...

That would be the NME flexi, "M.Jagger with piano accompaniment introduces excerpts from their forthcoming album: Exile On Main St. Rolling Stones"

Given free with the 28/4/72 edition. Fairly thick, for a flexi, because it's double sided. The B side has excerpts from the imminent albums from Curved Air and (I'm not making this up) Fanny.

Matrix number is SFI 107.

Not sure how scarce this is nowadays, but I got a near perfect copy about 18 months-2 years ago on ebay for £5 plus postage. (what's that? 8 US dollars or thereabouts?)

I believe it appears on a number of CDs of Exile outtakes.

It does. You can get it on an excellent boot called 'The Alternate Exile On Main St'. I bought a top quality CD of this, along with similar 'alternates' (with outtakes, early versions, related stuff) of 'Let It Bleed', 'Sticky Fingers' and 'Their Satanic Majesties..' from this chap, on ebay: (His current listing doesn't show any of these Stones titles, but I'm sure he has them in stock and available.)
