Just one of those acts found being in the wrong place at the wrong ijme. And they just were'nt  that good. Not bad just, just not quite there. On the other hand Quickilver sucked too.

Quicksilver Messenger Service did suck, but that has NOTHING to do with how great the first Moby Grape album is.

And the first Moby Grape album is GREAT.  Aside from the first three/four Love albums just about my favorite 60s California sound LP, stomping the living crap out of anything the Airplane, the Dead, the Springfield or any of those other hippies put out.

Listening to "Seeing" right now, off 69, a solid album.  Led Zep copped this style a lot, but could never touch it

I loved Moby Grape, one of the bands that are overlooked by then, the late 60's, but I'm glad that you brought the band up, a very talented guitarist line up, & it was the drummer for the Jefferson Airplane that was in the group, I forget his name, spencer somebody, I can't remember (I had to many acid flashbacks) but a great band.

Skip Spence was a guitarist and songwriter ("Omaha") with Moby Grape.  He had previously been drummer on the Jefferson Airplane's first album (pre-Grace Slick), and was replaced by Spencer Dryden.  Before the Airplane, Spence was a guitarist with Quicksilver Messenger Service.

And after he left the Grape he released Oar, a legendary dissolute oddball LP that is right up there in the all time weird ones, presaging everyone from Nick Cave to Beck and beyond.

great band. the debut was a five star classic. wow had some good points the grape jam bonus was weak. moby grape 69 was recently released on cd and its a great disc. not a fan of truly fine citizen, though 20 granite creek has some good tracks.
