there are not may guys i can stand to listen to with just a guitar, but this guy is an exception.  he has an amazing voice.  c, s and n's harmonies are arguably the best harmonizing voices in rocks history.

Crosby....Stills....Nash.....Young

In my top 5. Always have been. Any combination, or solo.

The most amazing "supergroup" ever.

It's strange. The only one I truly worship is Neil. When they're all together, they're at their best... except Neil who usually reserves his best for his solo work (exceptions being "Helpless" and "Ohio") but is still the highlight of the group for me. I guess on their own I like Stills the best. Such a macho jackass, but good guitar skills, a soulful voice (now ruined by age and his old cocaine abuse) and ambition before the cocaine madness and egotistical insanity stopped it all. Nash is decent, although not a major talent songwriting-wise and Crosby was a drugged-out hippie but seems more light-hearted musically since cleaning himself up. Neil is the best songwriter of them all, but oddly enough the worst singer easily.

Well, to me, Nash is the weakest link, although he still has some great tunes...and projects with Crosby that are wonderful. "If I Could Only Remember My Name"--David Crosby....exquisite. Haunting. Stills is a brilliant songwriter, IMO. And I love Neil Young's early solo work {and with Crazy Horse}. "After The Goldrush" is superb. And, of course, Stills and Young were in Buffalo Springfield together. Arguably the best 18 month long band ever... Wink

Graham Nash should've stuck it out with The Hollies - a far superior group to CSN&Y.

The reason he left was because he felt the otheer members were not taking his own contributions seriously. For every original composition recorded, they'd go back to the cover-versions.

Back in the day? The Hollies were a fuckin' great band. Especially when Nash was in the band.

LOVE the "old" Hollies too. Great vocal group, and yes, strong songwriting. Tony Hicks was a very underrated vocalist as well. Fave song? "I'll Pay You Back With Interest"...

Hey, I'm an equal opportunity CSNY/Hollies lover... Wink Smiley

I agree, The Hollies had fantastic harmony, I heard a long time ago, actually when Nash left The Hollies, it was because they wanted to record a album of Bob Dylan material, & Nash didn't agree, so he left, but The Hollies had these great vocals in harmony, that a lot of groups from the British Invasion didn't have, in fact I can't think of any group that had that vocal high harmony.

Even Brian Jones, who did not like "pop" bands, liked the Hollies. He loved good harmony, and The Hollies always delivered.  Smiley

And, of course, you've all heard the story about how "Cary Ann" (sp?) was actually inspired by Marianne Faithfull.

Hollies were just a fun group. Actually they still tour and record occasionally and, like the Stones, never officially broke up. They did however suffer from being too cutesy and poppy when things were changing. I mean, "Carrie Ann" and "On a Carousel" are real superb pop songs but it was already 1967 by then. Their reactions to psychedelia were squeaky clean by comparison to even the Beatles, I refer to the great "King Midas in Reverse" and "Dear Eloise." Nash felt stifled by their conservatism so I see why he left. His strength has always been harmonies, which he took in all his future endeavors.

They had some real top notch hits though, like "Look Through Any Window," "Bus Stop," "Pay You Back with Interest" and "Stop Stop Stop." Of course, "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" was a big hit, but I find the song too treacly. However, they still pumped out some good songs in the 70s without Nash; "Long Dark Road," "Gasoline Alley Bred," "Indian Girl" (way better than the Stones tune of the same name) and "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" (even though it is a ripoff of CCR's "Green River"). Also they covered Springsteen's "Sandy." Allan Clarke was the only one who ever got anything great out of the band once Nash had departed.
