from NME:

Oasis
Gallaghers to enlist a 50-piece choir
Oct 22, 2008

Oasis plan to rope in a 50-piece choir to cover a song by The Rolling Stones at BBC Electric Proms this weekend.

The Manchester rockers headline the Camden Roundhouse on Sunday (October 26) for the third year of the London-wide celebrations.

Traditionally rock bands have hooked up with classical musicians for the shows. And Noel Gallagher has revealed that the band are planning to cover the Stones' classic 'We Love You' with the Crouch End Festival Chorus.

The guitarist told BBC 6Music that the plans sprang from aborted sessions for new album 'Dig Out Your Soul'.

That's right. I'll be seeing the lad tonight playing with another little London combo.
But covering We Love You is inspired. I always though it would make a killer ender to the Stones main set.

I agree, and look forward to hearing it.  Some may call it blasphemy, but I really dig their version of I Am The Walrus.  Their SFM was OK, but not so interesting.

Post of the week.

Good choice of song. Should be interesting.

Have twice been offered pairs of tickets to see them next week, but have decided to pass this time.

More like "Waayeeeeeee Laaaaaaaav Yeeeoooo" if Liam's singing. He'll ad-lib his own lyrics "Now's the tee-iiime for us to shee-iiiine, what's yaws is miiiiin-ah." Good 'ol Oasis. It's one of the more sensible Stones covers for them since it's very Beatle-esque (cause of John and Paul singing on it- they don't get credited for "Dandelion" but I swear it sounds like their vocals on that one especially during the drum bit before the fade).

I tried to listen to their last album, but that singer's voice still wears me out.
But to keep it positive: wonderwall is great song.

Just watched the broadcast. Was a really good show. A few of the songs were done with the big choir as mentioned but the show ended with "I Am The Walrus" with what souned like a few chords of "Foxy lady" thrown in at the end.

All very 1967 but no sign of "We Love You". Bit of a waste of time the NME and BBC even mentioning that they were going to cover it.

That's too bad. In the pop world of 1967, "We Love You" is possibly among the top 10 songs of that banner year, and I don't include "I Am the Walrus" in that list. The Beatles entries would be "Strawberry Fields" and "A Day in the Life." The other Stones entries I'll make are "She's a Rainbow" and "Let's Spend the Night Together." 1967 was their least genius year since 1964 IMO, even though eceryone praises them in 67. But though Pepper was good, it was a bit kitschy and gimmicky at times. Plus "All You Need is Love" and "Hello Goodbye" were much inferior singles to the gems of 1965 and 1966. And the Magical Mystery Tour album is one of their more pedestrian releases (still very good for anyone else's standards, but average for the Beatles).

I watched the show on the I-player yesterday. It seemed complete. So, sadly no We Love You.

I thought the performance was excellent and very proffesional.

I haven't as of yet seen Oasis live, but was really taken a back by how polished they sounded. Has this always been the case?

no- they've tightened it up alot over the last couple of tours.
The rawness they had in 94-95, is no longer there and Liam's voice, isn't the force
it once was, but they're still a phenomenal live band.

Another thing that suprised me a little was the amount of lead guitar played by Gem Archer. He seemed to play plenty of the parts Noel would've performed in the studio.

I guess Bonehead was very much a 3 chord man and Noel simply had to take all the solo's.
