Well I like Down in The Hole because it takes on another person's perspective, a soldier in combat. The point is, when you are facing death and destruction, nothing in the world can save you. Its a grim message but true, and I imagine some soldiers hiding out in a trench with bombs dropping all around them wishing they were somewhere else. It's an anti-war commentary, fighting aint no rock and roll show. IMO

Nonsense. There's but one line that "supports" your thesis-- "after digging the trenches" -- and its
clearly a metaphor refering to ECONOMIC warfare. Mick (and Keith too as a matter of fact) has
long been interested in the decline and fall of our present-day empire, as early-on as "You take
your choice at this time: the Brave Old World or the slide into the depths of Decline -- oh Decline,
baby" and as late as the aptly referenced "Back of my Hand": "There's a Reverend, on the corner,
raving like a crazy man. He says there's trouble, trouble coming, I can read it like the back of
my hand."

I'm more or less that preacher, and THIS RIGHT NOW (what you'll be witnessing on the news day
to day over the next few months) is absolutely The Biggest Bang.
