When Americans threaten to use firearms to enforce their political views, the violent threats carried by that language undermines the system of public debate on which our system depends. Healthy political debate can sustain a great deal of anger and passion, but it cannot sustain repeated threats of violence and calls for violent assault as a form of political engagement. It is time to for right-wing political violence to stop before passions turn to bloodshed.

Is it really so hard to believe?

This thread is a microcosm of what is going on in this Country; and there have been times when I could throw a punch or two right here.

WE are a terribly divided Nation and that usually equates to lack of effective leadership, imhfo.

YES, there are those on the right that seem to be "flaming the fires" so to speak. But there is plenty of blame to spread around on BOTH sides of a very crooked aisle.

From TPM:

Seems like we've got a new craze: faxing pictures of nooses and gallows to congressmen's offices.

Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC), the House Majority Whip, got one today.

And Rep. Stupak (D-MI) got one too.

DailyKos:

With several different Democrats receiving threats of violence and receiving protective detail after voting for the new health insurance reform law (I haven't yet tired of saying that), it's worth highlighting something that Minority Leader John Boehner said last week about one of the Congressmen who has been subjected to this sort of vitriolic abuse: his neighbor from an adjacent Ohio district, Rep. Steve Driehaus.

"Take [Rep.] Steve Driehaus, for example," he says. "He may be a dead man. He can’t go home to the west side of Cincinnati."

As mcjoan noted earlier, Congressman Driehaus has been subjected to a litany of intimidating tactics, including death threats, having pictures of his children used in an attack ad, and having the address of and directions to his private residence posted on conservative blogs--and we've all seen how well that worked out in the case of case of Rep. Periello's brother.

Predictably, Driehaus has called Boehner out about his words, which are ill-chosen at best:

"I think it's really important for folks around here, especially leader Boehner, to understand that his words have consequences," Driehaus said. "Leader Boehner suggested that if I vote yes on this bill and go home to the west side of Cincinnati, that I could be a dead man.... It really calls into question his ability to lead. He should be a statesman."

Driehaus confronted Boehner about the interview on the floor of the House. "I told him it was inexcusable," Driehaus said. "It doesn't really matter the way you meant it, nor the way I accept it. It's how the least sane person in my district accepts it."

That's a pretty important point, because the least sane person in Western Cincinnati could be a Sarah Palin fan who wants to put SarahPAC's rifle scope imagery into practice.

I'd normally say that it's up to the minority GOP leadership to take a principled stand in opposition to the violence and the eliminationist rhetoric. But they can't, and they know it. They've spent the entire past year in cahoots with Fox News to convince America that health care reform would turn the United States into the Soviet Union--and they know they can't back down now without losing their base.

The GOP leadership and their allies on Fox and on the AM dial had better pray that nobody gets hurt or killed on account of this--because if that happens, the blood will be on their hands.

Oh give me one god damned break here! These fucksticks at the DailyKook try and pin this anti-government sentiment on Republicans, Fox News, and talk radio?! What a complete and utter crock oh shit!!!

Geesh! Ya think it might have just a little something to do with the fact that the President and the US Congress just told the American people to go fuck themselves? You expect the public just to grin and bear it?! I do not condone any violence period, but that is not the point. When the Representatives of the people blatantly disregard the will of the people, and especially on a matter as important as health care, then there will be some people that say and do things that they normally wouldn't consider doing.

But, I'll tell you what, should these asshole Democrats try and pull some more legislative hackery, bribes, and strong arm tactics to pass immigration reform (psst-that really means amnesty for the sole purpose of garnering a poor and needy voting block to redistribute wealth to ) and Cap and Trade, to combat the greatest hoax of all time, then we will see blood run in the streets. You want to know who is responsible for these threats of violence? It sure as fuck isn't Fox News, the GOP, or talk radio. No sir, it's all the fault of the arrogant liberal/Marxist pricks in DC, and especially the likes of Pelosi and Reid. They are 100% to blame!

No more is this fraudulent horseshit going to be tolerated. Massachusetts votes in man that ran with a very simple message. He made it perfectly clear that he would be the 41st vote to block this insane bill that is going to bankrupt the country. What did the Democrats do? They ignored the will of the people in the most liberal state in the nation, and used reconciliation to push the bill into law! Did they do this for the good of the people who so obviously did not want this crap? Of course not! They did it to save a floundering president's legacy, and to grow the size of government at a rate that has never happened in US history!

What did the DailyKook have to say about these fine upstanding fellas, funman?!

PS-To date there has still not one scintilla of evidence that any racial or homophobic taunts were really leveled at these pathetic congressmen that claimed they were verbally assaulted on the day of the vote. Not one single bit of recorded evidence, and not one person that claimed that they heard any of those things. To the contrary, not one witness has come forward, and all of the people that were there denied any knowledge of these taunts, and all video and audio recordings of the so-called taunts have come up empty.  No, the Democrat bastards were lying. this is a very disturbing post, on many levels...  you've talked about blood in the streets, posted a pic of two black men, with no context sarcastically calling them upstanding citizens (race baiting) and if I get you right are saying the president and congresss went against the will of americans? This is exactly what they were elected to do,the number one campaign promise...
I don't know who blamed this on Fox... I watched Fox today and only Fox today, and specifically heard a few people condemn the violent threats... yet even you make a comment about blood in the streets and try to place the blame onto the people who are being threatened. I beelive in was your conservative centerfold Reagan who granted amnesty for illegals.... oops.
You are def. appearing like those who came before you, who were on the wrong side of history ie: womens suffrage, civil rights...  the only thing that is somewhat redeeming, is that if Keef himself read this and responded, I know exactly what he would say about you, and how you are not cool and not one of us... this ain't about money or wealth right now, it's about being a human being. You know who else said that the tunts and threats were lies... the same people who were against equal rights... How lame is it, you have to lie, to be right.

Okay, Pdog, I am going to try and continue with my more moderate toned down approach here, but after that post it may be very difficult for me to continue to keep that promise.

Let me, ever so slowly, walk you through this. The country, as a whole, is angry. The people are angry. Why wouldn't the country be angry? This administration is sharply more polarizing than any president in modern history, perhaps in all of US history. His administration, and he personally, have gone out of their way to wage war on everything, and everyone, that does not fit their worldview. He has bad mouthed the private sector for his entire 14 months in office. We know that he despises the oil industry. Likewise, he has made no secret of desiring to shut down coal. He has chastised the banking industry, the auto industry (before outright nationalizes them), he has had his hate on for inch of the free market that he could tax into the ground, and redistribute their wealth. Some think that is fair. Those people are idiots.

This president even accused private physicians of removing tonsils and amputating feet just for pure unadulterated profit. Yet it is he, not the doctors or insurance agents, that has garnered more power. It is the Democrats in Washington who are the ones who are really trying to rig the game. It's a blind and raw power grab, and those that choose to ignore it now certainly won't ignore when the other party gets in control. The politicians in DC who are running the show just so happen to be Democrats. They are not the Democrats of 40 years ago, but they still call themselves Democrats. Today's Democrat Party is completely completely overrun by far left radicals. Anyone who disagrees with that last statement is either outright lying, or dumber than a box of rocks.

When the will of the people is ignored by the government it is only likely that some nuts are going to do something to provoke outrage. There are nuts on both sides of this debate. Let us not forget the college noose incident that all the MSM was reporting on as a sign of radical right wing white hate mongers. Turned out that it was an African American female. The story was promptly dropped by MSNBC.

Oh, and Pdog...Were you honestly trying to accuse me of racism because of that Panther photo? So I'm the racist, huh?

Let's see these Panthers were standing at a polling station wielding bats, and intentionally intimidating anyone that didn't look like they were gonna vote for their man they are fine, right? Who do you think their man was Pdog? So in your view it's racist of me to post a picture of two thugs that are exhibiting open racism with a malicious intent? I didn't post that photo because of the thugs' race, Pdog. Nor did I post it because Eric Holder dropped all charges against these thugs when he had them dead to rights breaking a federal law. Though, I think that he may have dropped those charges for reasons based on race, but that's not what you meant is it? I post the photo to show, once again, the oh-so-sanctimonious, and hypocritical crap spewed by the likes of the DLM. The Panther story was all but ignored. However, one or two senators claims he heard the N word, or the F word and then, and only then, does the media start acting as if the Right Wing gun loving Bible freaks are going to start killing. Black Panthers actually menacing voters in Philidelphia? Nothing to see here, move along....

Here's the little secret, Pdog. It's you who are obsessed with race. It's your liberal mindset that always immediatley plays the race card. Don't feel like the Lone Ranger, most liberals do exactly the same thing.

Riffi, you probably didn't get an unbiased education with respect to voting rights in the south.
That is the only thing I can think of to rationalize your fear of the Black Panthers.
They weren't there to force votes a certain way. They're there to allow EVERYONE access.

They never bothered me. And I have never been afraid of them.

With regard to the threats, I'm not sure what you're implying but I understand what you're denying.

If it was liberals trying to make the righties look bad, I deplore their action. I condemn it. And you? Care to comment?

Whoever it was, they aren't hidden from DHS. The public may never know, but DHS will. We're way past 1984 now . . .

LOL! You must be kidding?!?! I mean you have to be joking, right?

So these Panthers were there just to make sure everyone had equal voting rights?

You're insane.

When the threat of violence is pointed out to you in a blatant fashion, with photographic evidence to boot, you try and spin this as some kind of voter protection?! Well, you have already lost the argument my man. So the Black Panthers are just a peace loving group that is trying to sew a little racial harmony into a racist society? Is that your position? Had that photo been of two Klansmen dressed in robes and hoods weilding bats would you say that they were only there to allow "EVERYONE access"?

Haters are haters, funman! Black or white. They come from the fringes of both ssides of the political aisle.

Please point to a quote where I was defending any threats of violence. Sometimes angry people do stupid things. Who knew?!

I was pointing out an obvious fact that you seem intent on ignoring. To wit-the voters in this country are very angry. They are angry because a power hungry mob of leftists has taken over Washington DC, and has completely ignored their voices. A Democrat gubernatorial loss in Virginia, after a double digit victory for Barry in November 2008. Another conservative gubernatorial win in New Jersey even though the incumbant Democrat was a billionaire, and spent more money than any politician in US history on a single campaign. Obama came to NJ and campaigned for Jon Corzine no less than three times, even filling up the PNC Bank Arts center with over 10,000 union members, and party hacks. The results? Another huge loss for Democrats. Fast forward to Massachusetts. The most liberal state in the nation. A Democrat lock. The much vaunted Kennedy Seat! The Lion Of The Senate FFS! The outcome? Another victory for a little known conservative running on a campaign platform to kill the Democrat health care bill.

There is a referendom on Obama going on in the country funman. You guys can try and dismiss it, or ignore it, or perhaps, because you're so blinded by partisan devotion that you simply can't see it, but it is happening. And the Democrats running roughshod over the will of the governed is not something that the people are used to seeing in the USA. However, the three headed liberal/socialist monster Obama/Pelosi/Reid don't seem to mind, or care. You, and others here, just seem to go along for the Marxist ride. There is going to be a comeuppence in November. That much you can bank on.

I'm down to about 205 Bucky. Still need to reach my fighting weight of 180, but that has been a goal for the better part of the last decade. I'm marrying a vegetarian though, so that may help.

Giving up meat for a period is an excellent way to lose weight.   btw, 163 this morning.....high school weight, I'm done....but I still will not allow myself meat until July 9th...I check into a hotel that night with a Ruth's Chris Steak House.  That will be the beef night!!  Chicken and fish (pork roast for Easter) until then!

Yeah Jizzy. I am certainly slowing way way down on red meat consumption. There are some things that I love that make my fiance sick to look at. Ribs come to mind, but so too does bone in chicken, and bloody rare steaks just put her right off. LOL! So out of a desire to not make her nauseous I have been forced to adjust my diet accordingly.

I have also found that by cutting the beer my gut has gotten considerably smaller. I don't yet have six pack abs, but I no longer have a party ball either.

Gotta say fuman, I know you some of you libs reflexively re-write history, and will blindly spin a story to cover up the facts.  But you are delusional on this one.
---------------------------------
By JOHN FUND
President Obama's Justice Department continues to stonewall inquiries about why it dropped a voter intimidation case against the New Black Panther Party.

The episode—which Bartle Bull, a former civil rights lawyer and publisher of the left-wing Village Voice, calls "the most blatant form of voter intimidation I've ever seen"—began on Election Day 2008. Mr. Bull and others witnessed two Black Panthers in paramilitary garb at a polling place near downtown Philadelphia. (Some of this behavior is on YouTube.)

One of them, they say, brandished a nightstick at the entrance and pointed it at voters and both made racial threats. Mr. Bull says he heard one yell "You are about to be ruled by the black man, cracker!"

In the first week of January, the Justice Department filed a civil lawsuit against the New Black Panther Party and three of its members, saying they violated the 1965 Voting Rights Act by scaring voters with the weapon, uniforms and racial slurs. In March, Mr. Bull submitted an affidavit at Justice's request to support its lawsuit.
When none of the defendants filed any response to the complaint or appeared in federal district court in Philadelphia to answer the suit, it appeared almost certain Justice would have prevailed by default. Instead, the department in May suddenly allowed the party and two of the three defendants to walk away. Against the third defendant, Minister King Samir Shabazz, it sought only an injunction barring him from displaying a weapon within 100 feet of a Philadelphia polling place for the next three years—action that's already illegal under existing law.

***
Then the Washington Times reported on July 30 that six career lawyers at Justice who had recommended continuing to pursue the case were overruled by Associate Attorney General Thomas Perrelli—a top administration political appointee. One of the career attorneys, Appellate Chief Diana Flynn, had urged in an internal memo that a judgment be pressed against the defendants to "prevent the paramilitary style intimidation of voters" in the future.

Justice spokesman Alejandro Miyar says the dismissal was "based on a careful assessment of the facts and the law." But Rep. Frank Wolf (R., Va.), has been asking for more information. Assistant Attorney General Ronald Welch, for example, claims in a July 13 letter to Mr. Wolf that charges against the New Black Panther Party itself were dropped because there wasn't "evidentiary support" to prove they "directed" the intimidation. But Mr. Wolf notes in a letter sent to Justice that one defendant, Black Panther Party Chairman Malik Zulu Shabazz, said on Fox News just after the election that his activities at the polling station were part of a nationwide effort. Mr. Shabazz added that the Black Panther activities in Philadelphia were justified due to "an emergency situation."

----------

If you are against the threats of violence against Congressmen and woman after the vote this week, howe can you even attempt to justify this.  And Philly was not the only city that experienced this.

I'm saying you don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows, Pdog. Wanna bet that these guys were not sportin' any McCain buttons?

And to further underscore the point about the DSM distorting the threat of "right wing violence" have a look at this from News Busters. Before you guys get all hot and bothered about News Busters, why not read the article. It's chalk full of things like facts and stuff!

The Media's Myth of Right Wing Violence

By Mithridate Ombud
Created 03/24/2010 - 21:52

There is a disturbing chill [1] in the air according to the leftist media [2]. Threats of violence and rumor of murder are taking center stage instead of reporting legitimate public outrage about the passage of Obamacare. You need not click far online [3] to hear another person refer to Glenn Beck as "dangerous" [4], yet they can never claim specifically why. Despite their rhetoric, the media refuses to follow up with what makes a man, who has spent hours just this year begging people to remain peaceful [5], so obscenely dangerous.

Glaringly obvious in this latest round of reports is that there are no specific examples of alleged threats of violence cited. I can only find one specific threat that caused the FBI to swoop in and ask a speaker to wear a bullet-proof vest on the tip that the speaker would be gunned down by an assassin. But that speaker was Glenn Beck.

Whether this is a shortcut to 2nd Amendment action, valid concern, or just a bunch of crybaby progressive politicians over reacting [6] to criticism, it's hard to tell. But Obama's desire to continue ramming through the most divisive legislation [7] -- against his own creed [8] -- isn't helping bring calm to even the most peaceful conservatives. And while the evidence of a violent right is scarce, there's no limit to liberals [9] attempting to make conservatives look evil [10].

Before letting the media continue to perpetuate a stereotype that may not actually exist at all, let me give you the facts that U.S. journalists refuse to cite. Let me show you where real violence comes from, and I don't even need to mention the millions of babies killed every year by progressives or even the tens of millions of people murdered by their communist heroes [11].

•It was not the fear of conservative violence that caused Ann Coulter's speech to be cancelled [12] this week.
•It was a liberal who bit the finger off a man [13] who disagreed with him on healthcare.
•It was Obama-loving Amy Bishop who took a gun to work [14] and murdered co-workers.
•Joseph Stack flew his plane into the IRS building [15] after writing an anti-conservative manifesto.
•It was liberals who destroyed AM radio towers [16] outside of Seattle.
•It's liberals who burn down Hummer dealerships [17].
•It was progressive SEIU union thugs who beat a black conservative man [18] who spoke his mind.
•It's doubtful that a conservative fired shots into a GOP campaign headquarters [19].
•In fact, Democrats have no monopoly [20] on having [21] their offices vandalized [22].
•Don't forget it was Obama's friend Bill Ayers who used terrorism [23] as a tool for political change. SDS is still radical, with arrests in 2007 and the storming of the CATO Institute in July 2008.
•It was a liberal who was sentenced to two years [24] for bringing bombs and riot shields to the Republican National Convention in 2008.
•It was a liberal who threatened to kill a government informant [25] who infiltrated her Austin-based group that planned to bomb the RNC.
•It was liberals who assaulted police in Berkeley [26].
•It was liberals who intimidated and threw rocks through the windows [27] of researchers.
•The two Black Panthers who stood outside polls intimidating people with nightsticks [28] were probably not right-wingers.
•Every time the G20 gets together, it's not conservatives who destroy property and cause chaos [29].
I could literally go on and on, but let's try to have some perspective here. Violence is a product of the fringe, on either side, and it's sickening to try to use it for political advantage. Those who commit violence in the name of politics deserve political change no more than they deserve leniency in sentencing. Violence furthers no cause. The only call to action that violence has ever motivated Americans to is the retaliation on attackers. Somehow I think the liberals know that very well.

The media and politicians who are trying to construct a meme of conservative violence as we run up to the 2010 elections should only face the weapon they fear most; the ballot.

Oh, so it's your opinion that blacks were oppressing whites?
I guess you would believe that I'm rewriting history if that's how you think it went down.

I honestly never heard that position before.
Are you aware of any discrimination black voters faced in the south? Anything?

A referendum? You think you have the votes for that?
Obama should listen to the bed wetting minority, or else?

Your list of liberal aggression is quite impressive. It's no wonder you believe the current threats aren't coming from lunatic righties, given the impressive list which shows quite the opposite is actually going on.

If it please the court, I offer up this post as exhibit 1,537 of this man's complete isolation from reality, and his abject dronism.

We have further information from the University of Ottawa about Coulter's non-appearance last night.

Last night, the organizers themselves decided at 7:50 p.m. to cancel the event and so informed the University's Protection Services staff on site. At that time, a crowd of about one thousand people had peacefully gathered at Marion Hall.

So…no word of violence at all, just a peaceful protest. Ann Coulter simply chickened out, and the decision was entirely hers and the organizations that invited her.

Never mind, there was no infringement of open discussion here, just another example of right wing cowardice.

Oh, wait — it gets worse. Here's Ann Coulter's description of the event.

The police called off my speech when the auditorium was surrounded by thousands of rioting liberals -- screaming, blocking the entrance, throwing tables, demanding that my books be burned, and finally setting off the fire alarm.

I don't know. Setting off a fire alarm after that chaos of rioting, screaming liberals sounds a bit anticlimactic, you know. As that link also reveals, most of the people in that mob were her fans, politely lined up to attend her lecture.

We also know it wasn't the police who shut down the talk — it was the organizers. Her people.
