If this doesn't turn out to be a really bad thing the Republicans and all them look bad. If this turns out to be a good thing they are on the wrong side of history. Time will tell for certain. Do I smell toast?

conservatives were on the good side of envoirmentalism back in the day and under bush sr. did use taxes to reduce acid rain...  they have opposed social security, joining WWII, civil rights, womens rights, gay rights just off the top of my head... history won't make them look good on this... our last prez even used history as his benchmark for Iraq, trying to look all far sighted... in his own words, although on a dif. subject, the jury is still out on that...

as far as your argument with nanky...wtf? he argues with you and you bring personal insults in, calling him short and bald??

Good morning comrades.

So, are we officially on the metric system now?
When do we switch over to the Euro?

SV, the slogan on that shirt has two interpretations. Until we figure it out, I highly advise you stop drinking . . .

this isn't howe i remember it. of course i have a memory like a duck with alzheimer's. but even if "they" were lying (which "they" may or may not have...whoever "they" were), what would possess you to make the call in the first place? this is an interweb message board created for fun and music, not something that really matters all that much in real life.

On January 3rd I weighed 226.  My dr. took my BP and it was 155/126.  He gave me a 'scrip for medication.  I crumbled it up--I'm 45 and too young for meds---I knew what had to be done.  I starve. I have skipped all but one breakfast since January 3rd. I skipped all but two lunches (both business, could not get out of them). I have dined on only berries, fish, olives, and brown bread about 6 nights a week--skipping the 7th night entirely. I've kept it down to only 6-7 oz.'s or so of red meat in those three months---no processed meats at all. After January, when I realized two thirds of my calories were booze, I replaced the snifter or whiskey glass with a shot glass. One glass of wine a day, 2-3 shots of Irish whiskey or bourbon or cognac at night. My doctor/wife says it's not a healthy way to lose weight, but it beat staying at 226! I weighed in at 165 yesterday and today.  I hope to not put it all back on right away, so I think I might keep the no-meat thing going through the summer -- although I'm no vegetarian.   Nothing of my old wardrobe fits any more and the attention has been ego gratifying.  And, most importantly, the BP is down to 116/74!  Oh, and swimming a mile a day---I've missed only one day since Christmas...the morning after GnR in Montreal.

Congrats -- losing that much weight is impressive.

I am in a similar situation.
I turn 47 soon, and ever since a nasty arm injury in Tae Kwon Do in 2004, I had to stop my exercise - both TKD and weights.  I gained roughly 25 lbs and I have felt horrible ever since.

In the past year, I too was given a script for Lipitor which I crumpled up!
I refuse to be a slave to it at this age.

I have altered my diet drastically - tho not as much as you - and I am getting back into my exercise routine.

Feels so much better and hopefully I will be back to my fighting weight by summer.

Hey - look at that - a nice post that is neither mean nor cruel, even if off topic!

It is tough - especially after age 40 - shit keeps getting wider, more hairy, and closer to the ground!

But I did it for 20 years - weights 3 times a week and TKD twice a week - religiously.
And I know how good it feels when I am in shape.

Two years ago I bought a beautiful squat rack/weight set for my home.
Started working out nice and easy to make sure that injury was healed.
I was doing great - dropped 10 pounds, moved things to where they were supposed to be.
Then all of a sudden I reinjured myself.
Doc put me on Flexerol (sp?) -- that shit is crazy.
Had hallucinations, ended up in the ER thinking I was having a heart attack.
Walked away again until just this year.

I refuse to quit tho.
I'd rather end up in the ER with pulled muscles than a full blown coronary!

and the defense of/sympathy for the likes of glencar and his ilk remain a huge barrier...obnoxious ad himnems, family insults, and--indeed--physical threats and challenges get ignored, hushed up, and brushed off and reactions thereto are seen as somehow lacking in decorum....one side started this and one side fed it, and one side continues to do so....just 'cuz you've been posting with them a few more years does not abolve ANYONE who enabled that behavior and continues to do so.....

word

word... i realy want it to end too, friendly jabs are fine... i made a pact with these guys face to face we would put friendship first, and when I asked them to honor it, they said fuck off, even berfore the glenny incident... yet they place Fleabits breaking of friendship as some great betrayal... go figure.

what happened in FB, did I piss you off on a zynga game?

anyway... hope we can move past that... i want you back... haha!

on the weight thing, i went from 220 to 190, diet and exercise of course, but I never let myself get hungry, if your body thinks it is starving is stores fat, healthy snacks, but i eat tons of food all the time, reasonable portions, but almost anything I want... my libido went through the roof... best part, i feel like i'm a teen or early 20's again... i'm horny all the time, it is so awesome....

in all seriousness and all my jabs aside, be well and healthy... have you ever tried yoga? it's hard and not something alot of guys do, but it is amazing... hard to get hurt, b/c if a stretch is too much, you just stop, but you will be sore. if jagger can be thin and active in his 60's, we can in our 40's...

I have tried yoga and I do like it.
It is actually very similar to some of the stretching done in martial arts.

But I prefer martial arts for other reasons:
1 - you learn valuable self-defense skills - both in combat forms (such as TKD) or grappling forms (like Jui Jitsu) - that is why I enrolled my kids in it.
2 - the mental aspects of martial arts improve focus/concentration that translate well into other aspects of one's life.
3 - the discipline required forces one to remove bad habits from your life, like smoking and drinking - at least in excess - can't say I ever gave up either entirely!!
Plus, because you burn so many calories, you can pretty much eat whatever.

Typical advanced TKD workout is 15 minutes of cals and stretching.
10 minutes of two-person "forced" stretching.
20 minutes of punching, kicking, blocking drills and combinations.
30 minutes of sparring or forms (kata).
15 minutes of cool down strecthing, cals, and meditation.

The workouts vary - some are designed for endurance, others are designed for fighting technique, others for style.

I can tell you that a good brown/black belt workout is between an hour and a half and two hours.
You can lose up to 5 pounds of water per workout, and afterward you feel great for days.

Alot of people think it is silly.
In fact, I was one of them until my best friend from college talked me into taking standard Japanese karate classes in undergrad.  I loved it.  After that I studied Tang Soo Do for two years (traditional Korean form of Tae Kwon Do where the entire class is conducted in the Korean language).  That instructor left the area, and so I switched to Tae Kwon Do from roughly 1992 to 2004.  During that time I also studied Jui Jitsu, self-defense and body mechanics (which is the stuff you learn to inflict serious bodily injury/pressure points/etc.) and weapons training such as the bo staff.

My daughter and I are planning on enrolling again soon.
I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a fun and social way of getting in shape.

I really hope you're joking here.
Many people can't lower their cholesterol by changing their diet, so for some it would be worth the risk I suppose.

Maybe you have misquoted your wife?

I'm no doctor, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express, and my doc told me that it doesn't just lower cholesterol (which some can do with diet and expercise) - it also eats away at plaque buildup in the arteries which apparently is not easily done with just diet and exercise.  My doctor also said that everyone over 40 should take it to combat the natural plaque buildup.

I still don't like the idea....just like men over 40 should get a prostate exam each year.

Whoa doc, you got the whole fist up there?

Prescription drugs, while necessary in many cases, are the easy way out these days.

I certainly wouldn't prescribe or even suggest any treatment for anybody, but I do remind people
to get another medical opinion when I hear them complain about their medications.

My father had cholesterol problems, so I started learning about heart disease at a young age.
Historically, the Japanese and Italians have had very low heart disease problems in their societies.
So I looked farther and saw many attributed this to the diets of these countries.

Japan's citizens eat a lot of fish (HDLs) and a lot of vegetables, with smaller carb portions.
Italy's citizens eat olive oil (HDLs) in almost every thing they serve. Lots of tomatoes (lycopene).

It works for me, but we're all a little different (genetically) so ask a professional. Then ask another.

Lipitor is a wonder drug.  My cholo has plummeted since I started it.
Older than you's, not enough time to exercise, Mediterranean background
prone to plaque, the Lip works for me!
