South Park has been on for a lot of years and like most TV shows that have been around, is not as good as it used to be.

I heard Rush Limbaugh is accusing the Obama admin of trying to capitalize politically on the tragedy in Haiti. I'm not exactly sure how they can capitalize by sending aid to an incredibly poor country that was just devastated by an earthquake. But that doesn't stop that fat,sick windbag from talking shit.

On his "Christian" (sic)  Broadcasting Network show yesterday, Rev. Pat Robertson (sick!) said that the nation of Haiti has been devastated by a large earthquake because its people "made a pact with the devil."

"Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it," Robertson said. "They were under the heel of the French ... and they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, 'We will serve you if you'll get us free from the French.'"

"True story," he continued. "And the devil said, 'OK, it's a deal.' Ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after another."

Robertson is infamous for such inflammatory statements. And not surprisingly, the reaction to the controversial pastor's comments has been harsh.

David Waters, editor of the Washington Post's "On Faith" online column, said the time has come for Roberston to stop.

"Considering the massive death, destruction and misery in Haiti, it is shameful for anyone -- but especially a so-called minister of the gospel -- to suggest that God or the poor people of Haiti had anything to do with it," Waters wrote.

Rev. Paul Raushenbush, the religion editor for the Huffington Post, gave Robertson a harsher directive: "Go to Hell, Pat Robertson -- and the sooner the better," he wrote. "Your 'theological' nonsense is revolting. Don't speak for Haiti, and don't speak for God. Haiti is suffering a catastrophe and you offer silliness at best, and racism at the worst."

Robertson's comments appear to stem from a part of Haitian mythology.

Haiti became the first black republic to declare its independence in 1804, after a prolonged fight. (Read more background information about Haiti here.) It is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and has been plagued by political violence -- a history some explain with religious mythology, according to one Haitian-American minister. Minister Jean R. Gelin writes that, as the story goes, a satanic pact took place on Aug. 14, 1791, during a meeting of slave leaders planning to launch their war for independence.

Haiti's rough history includes more concrete factors which from the beginning have contributed to its unstable state. For instance, Haiti was forced to pay France 90 million francs -- a huge sum -- over the course of decades under the Royal Ordinance of 1825, in which French King Charles X demanded restitution for the loss of France's colony in exchange for diplomatic recognition. The country was long oppressed by dictators and corrupt leaders.

"The people of Haiti have been used and abused by their government over the years," Shep Smith of Fox News said yesterday in addressing Robertson's remarks. "Hundreds of thousands of desperate human beings need our help, our support, our money, and our love. And they don’t need that."

oooh, I know...Mr. Riffhard told us it's a verifiable FACT that Conservatives donate more to "charities" than Liberals.

So I'll say...Conservative Republicans?

By the way, let Me say that that senile old hatemonger Mr. Robertson does NOT represent Me in any way, shape, or form. And that, voodoo curse or not, the REAL Jesus would want everyone to help out in any way they can. 

I encourage you to consider making a financial contribution to the relief organization of your choice. Every dollar counts in a disaster of this magnitude, so even a small donation will go a long way toward helping to ease the suffering in Haiti.

Wasn't the Katrina disaster based on an upcoming gay pride parade that God didn't want to happen?
Maybe that was Hagee's statement, instead of Robertson.

One more, there is a religion in India (Jaynes?) where the more extreme they get, the less violent they become.
I have heard that extremists in this religion won't harm a fly, and wear mouth coverings to avoid accidentally inhaling them.

I'll agree that Pat Robertson is an idiot. He may not speak FOR all people of faith but he does speack TO a great many of them...the network he started, CBN, is now seen in 180 countries and broadcast in 71 languages. He founded the CBN Cable Network, which was renamed the CBN Family Channel in 1988 and later simply the Family Channel. When the Family Channel became too profitable for Robertson to keep it under the CBN umbrella without endangering CBN's nonprofit status, he formed International Family Entertainment Inc. in 1990 with the Family Channel as its main subsidiary. Robertson sold the Family Channel to the News Corporation in 1997, which renamed it Fox Family. A condition of the sale was that the station would continue airing Robertson's television program, The 700 Club, twice a day in perpetuity, regardless of any changes of ownership. The channel is now owned by Disney and run as "ABC Family".  But no matter what you call it, it's a platform for his hateful ramblings at least twice a day. Very few people in the world have that kind of reach.

In September 1986, Robertson announced his intention to seek the REPUBLICAN nomination for President of the United States. Robertson said he would pursue the nomination only if three million people signed up to volunteer for his campaign by September 1987. Three million responded, and he did run, coming in 2nd to George H. W. Bush in the Iowa Caucus. A tried & true Bush family tactic, casting aspersions on his military career, helped get him out of the race, but he was still a featured speaker at the 1988 Republican convention.
