500 years ago people were burned alive for allegations of thought crimes against the church.
Can it be said of those times, that they shouldn't care what others beliefs were? Zero consequences?

You didn't watch the video, which is what I expected.
Sam Harris isn't a Christian, and his comments are regarding all religions, not just Christianity.
It isn't my proof of "some strange atheist theory", it's a discussion on why THE BOOKS ARE THE PROBLEM with religion.
Not that people are seeking comfort and peace of mind through spirituality.

Thanks for the prayers though . . .

You have made it very clear that you look down upon Christians, and have an open disdain for their personal religious beliefs. You're a bigot. Embrace it.

Well you're certainly entitled to have this opinion of me, but why would you ask me to "embrace" my supposed bigotry?

One would think that, at least within the context of Christianity in a politics thread, a thinking man would have to admit that the very things you hate so viscerally about Obama are the things that could be described as the most Christian, while (pardon my hiccup) the Bush Doctrine is the most UN-Christian concept in the history of the Republic.

You know, after going on for hundreds of pages about how you're right, because of the arcane knowledge that you and few others have access to (elitism), and how everyone else is an idiot for disagreeing with you... well, some people could view that as smug and snobbish.

Just sayin'.

You are aware that an athiest rejects a form of thiesm, even if they embrace and are practicing another form of... Are you aware of that? Let's just be clear, a person who accpets Jesus as the only and one true god, is also saying the openly reject the others... that is being athiest... tru if you just substitute Allah ect...
This is why many people, like me, appraoch God without any religous affiliation, and it works just fine, despite all the warring and opposing religions have done towards each other... Jews, Christians and Muslims.. .by merely stating thier god is the one true god, reject and prejudice others, who either believe or do not beleive... regardless, this idea, also sets into motion, a logic and idealogy, that also creates bigotry. It is safe to say, that the so called athiest, who you say beleives nothing, is in alot of ways practicing more faith in that belief of non- beleif, that a person who just accepts a mono thiesm based relgion, which opposes other mon- thiest based relions. They are not showing faith, they are disproving anothers version of god!!! think about it... no wonder so many die over these religions, history is full of examples... all religions!!!

god wants to protect insurance company profits and limit competition. We really need to stop ppandering to people with cancer, and kids with broken arms, by telling them it is ok for these insurance companies to pay money for their treatment. How else are they going to make billions if they have to keep giving money out to unlucky people, and careless children. We need more people like riffy to stand up and protect the CEO's and executives who stand to lose million dollar bonus payments. Insurance comapnies have the right, and need to be able to safely increase the costs of premiums, limit coverage or just drop smeone entirely, in order to keep the companies profitable. They can not allow any competition that might reduce costs and keep people healthy. Healthy people would mean reducing the prescription drug industry that is thriving b/c people are overweight, have heart disease and eat crap food created by another great industrie, the food industry!!! God bless america, the only country that offers you the persuit of happiness, which cab mean be fat, depressed and sick... we have a pill for that!

So much for transparency:

President Obama's cap-and-trade plan could deliver several blows to the U.S. economy, according to a Treasury Department memo that one observer described as "damning."

The country could lose 1 percent of its gross domestic product, face accelerated outsourcing of manufacturing jobs, and experience energy rationing if cap and trade became law, according to the memo, which the Competitive Enterprise Institute obtained under the Freedom of Information Act.

“The memo was damning particularly . . . by pointing out what opponents of cap and trade have long said is the point of cap and trade, and has been proven by Europe’s experience,” said Christopher Horner, a senior fellow at the institute. "You will chase off energy intensive industries ? meaning manufacturing jobs. The memo singles out steel, cement, chemical . . . glass, plastic, and ceramics ? the same ones that have been clobbered in Europe by this.

“This is the largest outsourcing scheme in history, not just in theory, but in practice,” he said.

The memo, prepared after Obama’s Feb. 24 speech to a joint session of Congress, details Treasury's analysis of the economic impact of cap and trade, which ties climate change to business practices.

The United States gained steel jobs from Spain because the manufacturer's costs under the European Union’s cap-and-trade program chased the jobs to Kentucky, Horner said. However, that foreshadows how cap and trade could cost the United States jobs that move abroad, he said.

The report concludes that cap and trade could result in the loss of the U.S. market share in the global economy.

The administration expects cap and trade to double the economic costs of all environmental regulations to the economy, and Horner said the 1 percent reduction in GDP would “institutionalize recession.”

Cap and trade could generate between $100 billion and $200 billion in federal revenue each year and would increase the cost of existing energy tax provisions, according to the memo.

The Treasury official who wrote the memo suggests using either a carbon tax or a cap-and-trade system that would price carbon at either a fixed tax rate or at a variable market price of emission allowances. The price would be set at a level where firms and consumers would experience enough financial pain to compel them to reduce their emissions.

“Cap and trade has one purpose, and that’s axiomatic, and that is to increase the cost of energy,” Horner said. “The president’s proposal ? and that’s what the Treasury is talking about ? would cause electricity prices to skyrocket [because] the cost of energy is embedded in everything, so you are talking about a very economically damaging proposal.

it worked before, and was held in high regards by both parties, it showed envoirmental results and had a cost ratio of 40:1. Even if you deny climate change, you can't deny pollution or the success of this Republican created proposa that worked in 1990, and has a long history in clean air legislation.
So, why is this a band thing Nanky?

I can cite you links and studies and legislation, and facts... that show that cap and trade worked before!!!

There's alot more, but I don't read, or at least riffy says I don't.

It isn't a question of whether it would work to clean the air.
Taxing the hell out of industry to reduce emissions likely does work.

The problem, which the formerly secret report discusses, is the negative impact this tax would have on energy costs to everyone, especially energy intensive businesses which will either leave the US or shut down.  That is the point - that and the fact that the "transparent" Obama Administration pushed for this legislation while hiding the report.

FACTSHEET: Competitive Enterprise Institute, CEI

http://www.exxonsecrets.org/html/orgfactsheet.php

Founded in 1984, CEI is a Washington - based
conservative think tank "whose research on public
policy reflects the principles of free enterprise,
individual liberty and limited government." CEI is
at the center of the global warming misinformation
campaign.

CEI, among many other statements denying the
seriousness of global warming, has argued that
climate change would create a "milder, greener,
more prosperous world" and that "Kyoto was a
power grab based on deception and fear". In
addition to leading the campaign to convince the
public that global warming is uncertain, CEI has
weighed in on pesticide risk and endocrine
disrupting chemicals - both of which pose no
threat to human health, in CEI's view - and
has supported regulatory "takings" measures.

CEI supports eventual elimination of the Superfund
and has advocated the complete privatization of the
Endangered Species Act, arguing that species protection
would meet the level of "demand," based on how much
citizens are willing to pay for habitat preservation
(CLEAR fact sheet). CEI has a long anti-environmental
pedigree. CEI is a member of the State Policy Network
and the Cooler Heads Coalition. CEI was a sponsor of
the first Wise Use conference in 1988 and has had
membership in the Get Government Off Our Backs
coalition, the wise use umbrella group. CEI is also
a network member of The Heritage Foundation,
Alliance for America, and the anti-Endangered
Species Act group, Grassroots ESA Coalition.

With more than a $3 million annual budget, CEI is
supported by both conservative foundations and
corporate funding. Known corporate funders in
addition to ExxonMobil include the American Petroleum
Institute, Cigna Corporation, Dow Chemical, EBCO Corp,
General Motors, and IBM.

This could become interesting. Summer of 2001?

FBI Whistleblower says Neocons Negotiated Iraq Invasion with Foreign Agents in Summer 2001

In an interview with former CIA officer Phillip Giraldi, FBI translator turned whistleblower Sibel Edmonds named Douglas Feith, Paul Wolfowitz, and Richard Perle as having been wiretapped and recorded discussing plans with the Turkish ambassador in the Summer of 2001 to invade Iraq and occupy the Kurdish region bordering Turkey.

Yeah, I seem to recall that meeting. That was when Gadhafi handed over Libya's entire nuclear program to the Bush Admin with a bow on top. This was a picture of the event where Gadhafi had to go hat in hand and beg forgiveness. See, JC, Gadhafi knew that Bush would not have hesitated to do the right thing and blow that country off the map had they not complied.

Flash forward to the Obummer era. Gadhafi greets the Lockerbie bomber as a state hero because he knows full well that Obummer is such a little push over. I'd bet you my last dollar that Brown never would have allowed that terrorist to be freed had Bush still been in office. No way in hell! Alas, we have a little pip squeak weakling of a president, and the world is happily walking all over him.

The one term chump looked like a damned fool today at the UN. I did loved the way Gadhafi kept referring to Obummer as "my son". That was perfect! More apologies for America being America from the Apologist in Chief. The anger is rising in the heartland! Great news for America!

I talked to my dad in Buckhead, and he said that he was not flooded, but that some trees in his neighborhood fell because of all the rain. I'm guessing that down around Ackers Mill Road near the Hooch was fugged.

Yeah, I seem to recall that meeting. That was when Gadhafi handed over Libya's entire nuclear program to the Bush Admin with a bow on top.

Er, no...that was when Condi met with Qaddafi in 2008.  It was something of a love-in, considering
the number of terrorist attacks and US military retaliations that have characterized most of his time
as dictator of Libya.

He gave her a locket engraved with his picture to wear, as well as an autographed copy of his famous
Green Book, his revolutionary call to arms that, as the title page puts it, includes "The Solution to the
Problem of Democracy, the Solution to the Economic Problem, the Social Basis for the Third Universal
Theory."

...
"From Muammar Qaddafi," the inscription said,
"with respect and admiration."

There was no bow on it.

This was a picture of the event where Gadhafi had to go hat in hand and beg forgiveness. See, JC, Gadhafi knew that Bush would not have hesitated to do the right thing and blow that country off the map had they not complied.

...

Are you ever factually correct about ANYTHING?  This is a picture
of Condoleeza Rice meeting the Libyan dictator , known to your
hero Mr. Reagan as "the mad dog of the Middle East", for a social
visit at Qaddafi's official Bab el-Azizia residence. It is the same
compound hit by U.S. airstrikes in 1986 in retaliation for a deadly
Libyan-linked terrorist attack in Germany. The attack killed Qaddafi's
baby daughter.

And, of course, the photo shows that Moammar's hat is firmly on top
of his head.

"The Bush Doctrine" did indeed scare Moammar into abandoning his
WMD program, because W. had proven that he had no qualms about
doing "the right thing" and killing thousands of innocent civilians.
None of that pansy-ass Christian stuff. Unless it involves Gog and
Magog.

I'm a little surprised that you are so forgiving of all of Libya's evil
words and deeds, simply because they gave up on their half-assed
nukulur program. Has Moammar ever stood trial for his crimes
against the US and other free countries? Why has he been given
a free pass?

BTW, I can't find any pictures of Col. Qaddafi begging for forgiveness.
Could you post some, please? TIA!

Alas, we have a little pip squeak weakling of a president, and the world is happily walking all over him.

er...if you say so. The facts, which you ordinarily hold in such high esteem, would seem to point toward an oil deal that was set up by Bush's lapdog Tony Blair. Which would've been while Bush was President.  But hold on to that last dollar.

...

WASHINGTON — Congress should investigate whether a lucrative oil contract might have played a role in the release of the only man convicted in the 1988 Lockerbie bombing, a New Jersey senator said Wednesday.

Democratic Sen. Frank Lautenberg said the congressional panel “must expose the truth” and “uncover whether justice took a back seat to commercial interests.”

On Aug. 20, Scottish authorities released from prison Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, who is dying from prostate cancer, on compassionate grounds. At the time, Scottish officials said doctors had determined he had less than three months to live.

Al-Megrahi, a former Libyan intelligence agent, served eight years of a life sentence for his role in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, which killed all 259 people on board and 11 people on the ground.

His release and warm homecoming in Libya sparked an international uproar, including rebukes from victims’ families, President Barack Obama and FBI director Robert Mueller.

In London, The Sunday Times has reported that the British government decided that releasing the Lockerbie bomber would be in the overwhelming interests of the United Kingdom, as a major oil deal between Libya and BP was being negotiated.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown has denied that he gave any assurances to Libya’s leaders that the bomber would be freed in exchange for oil contracts.

Scotland also has denied that business interests had anything to do with allowing al-Megrahi to leave prison and argue that compassionate release is a standard part of Scottish justice for dying prisoners.

Lautenberg called for a Senate investigation into the report in a letter to Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., the panel’s ranking member.

Kerry spokesman Frederick Jones said the senator opposed the release of al-Megrahi and the committee was planning to hold a hearing on U.S. relations with Libya.

The one term chump looked like a damned fool today at the UN. I did loved the way Gadhafi kept referring to Obummer as "my son". That was perfect!

I'm glad you did loved it. But wait - isn't Muammar our friend now? Isn't that what Condi's visit was all about? So why are you dissing the US's staunch ally in the War on Terror?

By the way, his feelings for Condi ran a bit deeper.

He said:

"I support my darling black African woman. I admire and am very proud of the way she leans back and gives orders to the Arab leaders. ... Leezza, Leezza, Leezza. ... I love her very much. I admire her, and I'm proud of her, because she's a black woman of African origin."

More apologies for America being America from the Apologist in Chief.

...
In the US President's debut speech to the United Nations General Assembly
in New York, he threw down a challenge to critics who have complained that
his country throws its weight around and rams its agenda down the world's
collective throat.

"Those who used to chastise America for acting alone in the world, cannot now
stand by and wait for America to solve the world's problems alone," Mr Obama
said.

"We have sought, in word and deed, a new era of engagement with the world.
Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global
response, to global challenges."

His message is being boiled down to this: President Obama's America is more
respectful of world opinion than that of George W. Bush - and now he wants
some payback.

"Make no mistake: this cannot be solely America's endeavour".

In a nod to critics inside the US who have accused him of embarking on a global
"apology tour" since taking office, he said he would never apologise for defending
his nation's interests.  "But it is my deeply held belief that in the year 2009 - more
than at any point in human history - the interests of nations and peoples are shared."

JC your pomposity is matched only by your wee tiny stature as a man. By that, I don't mean that you are short, I have many friends that are almost as short as you are. No, I mean that as it relates to your worthiness. You lie, obfuscate the facts, or report them only as you view them through your smug, elitist, liberal world view. You are one step below a dung beetle in my estimation. You have a knack for pointing out every little type-o that I may make, and you twist facts to suit your inane arguments. In other words, you're weak and lame.

Case in point. You go out of your way to argue about the photo you posted about Condi Rice and Gaddafi. You completely ignore the fact that these meetings, and there were several, are what led Libya to cease all efforts on their on-going nuke program, and to hand over all details of said program to the Bush Administration. (btw that never would have happened had Barry been in office,see-Iran)Then you lamely try and imply that the only reason that Brown allowed the Scottish parliament to release the Lockerbie terrorist was because of an oil deal in the works. Wow! Really? No shit JC!! The point is that that very release would never have happened had Bush still been in office. Never!

The deal that you are referring to was on the table even while Bush was in office. It was not acted on, and it would never have been acted on had we a president with any sense of American pride, or even a pair of balls. Brown, and the rest of the world, knows that Barry has been doing the world apology tour since January. He had nothing to fear as far as backlash from the Obama Admin. goes.

Oh yes, Barry is all about slamming his own country, and your little cut and paste from his lame assed UN speech does not change that fact. I could link to at least five speeches off the top of my head that show point blank the worst president in US history apologizing for the USA's role in everything from climate change (bogus claims to be sure) to torture (another lame bogus claim). He loves to talk his own country down, and Reagan would have bitch slapped that fake little Marxist fuck down like the useless idiot he is.

Your photo of the Oklahoma City bombing is disgusting and pathetic. Your implication that the majority of Americans who now oppose the radical policies of Obama are a bunch of Timothy McVeighs is very telling. You can't argue the fact that most Americans see Barry's policies as startlingly leftist. Instead of just dealing with the facts you try and impugn the polling data, and the people that marched on DC, and attended the Tea Parties and town hall meetings. Well I've got news for you you little scumbag, the majority of Americans are railing against what the bastard is doing, and their voices are beginning to grow louder and louder. 2010 is going to be a real wake up call for little leftist bastards like you.

You, and BJ for that matter, knew exactly what I was talking about when I said it's coming. So allow me to repeat, and really make the point clear. It is coming you little drone! It's coming fast, and the movement is growing! Americans can't stand the idiocy that has been on display since the coronation of the boy king Barry. His numbers are sinking like a rock. Barack the rock is going down faster than Monica on Bill, and his impending political demise can't get here fast enough.

Oh, and one more thing, go fuck yourself.
