Another strawman. I never suggested "that it was somehow appropriate" for nutjobs to threaten the President's life. In fact, I explicitly condemned them. That seems to be a common practice on your side, as when Hannity tried to pin Jimmy Carter's race comments on the White House when the Administration specifically distanced itself from them.

I did say that there were valid questions about the legitimacy of the Bush presidency but not about the Obama presidency. And no, the popular vote doesn't decide who's president. In 2000, neither did the electoral vote; it was decided by a dishonest, fundamentally flawed Supreme Court decision. And Al Gore would have been a thousand times better than Bush (at least 4 thousand times better, based on U.S. casualties in Iraq).

Well . . . . to place the comparative vehemence of the opposition to the two Presidents in context; that's why. I started by drawing a bright line between legitimate (I prefer the correct spelling) protest and wingnut death threats (by either side). I simply contrasted valid objections to the Bush regime (based on law and facts) with invalid challenges to Barack's presidency, based on forged birth certificates and other idiocy. The point is to question the sort of false equivalency which is a hallmark of the so-called "liberal media;" you know, things like "Some people say President Obama will kill your grandparents but others disagree" as if the two positions were equally rational, when one is off-the-charts insane. Some of the worst of this was seen in the run-up to the school speech, with half-educated redneck mothers literally crying in fear of the President encouraging kids to stay in school. Likewise, comparison between opposition to the two Presidents tends to miss the fact that questions about legitimacy were valid in one instance but not in the other.

I guess we should all learn not to speak in absolutes. Anytime we say "everyone" or "no one" does something, we're weakening our own arguments. Just as your eye-witness account of the 9/12 rally supposedly showed that the people there were not rednecks, when hundreds of photos showed that plenty of them were, I was thinking back at my own experiences at several of the largest DC anti-war rallies. I don't recall any overt death threats on any of the signs I saw - but of course when you're dealing with hundreds of thousands of people, you can't know what ALL of the signs say. I will stand by the assertion that by far, most people wanted impeachment. We were of the opinion that our grievances could be addressed legally. The five people you showed (from several different years and countries, by the way) were not representative, nor did they constitute "plenty of people". And I also stand by my denunciation of those people who were breaking the law by threatening the President. I haven't heard any similar statements from you, just a whiny "you guys did it first." Does that defense stand up in court?

I haven't heard you OR Mr. Riffhard - or any of the TV blowhards - saying Obama should be impeached. Of course, maybe that's because you guys so misused the process with President Clinton. But still, there are these constant warnings about SOMETHING that's coming. What is it? A new civil war? An assassination attempt? More tea parties?

So you are thanking GOD that Al Gore didn't become President? You wouldn't want to go back and undo the whole Iraq thing and the whole Katrina thing and all of the hiccups that none dare mention? All those hundreds of thousands of deaths that could've been avoided?
