But this is yet another reason I believe health care reform is needed. A safety net for people whose circumstances have left them without. When Wall St fails again in the future, which is probable, those left out will not have to suffer.

As Pdog pointed out, and I have heard Alan Greenspan make the same point a few years back, debt will never go away. It's a necessity for growth. It's a bit over my head, the details of why this is so, but I liken it to buying a house. One goes into debt (in a big way), but usually this pays off for the homeowner. At least it used to pay off for them. Times are obviously very uncertain, but none of the tax cuts that went to the wealthy 1%, or even the major businesses seem to be trickling down in this time of crisis. So I don't think that plan worked out very well.

In the mean time, all we can do is try to help out each other. Education, food, and medical needs should be a priority.

Nanky, it might a good time to look at the archives, and see what some of the people supporting Bush said, about the protestors who held signs that directly or indirectly made remarks like kill Bush... now the pissing on him if he was on fire, is obviously sarcasm... then again, you hate sarcasm!!! I remember once making the comment, I was praying for Bush to die... Wow did you guys, yes plural, not just you in particular, give me shit... At the time, that was how I expressed my anger... That being said, there is a fundamental difference between Bush and Obama (besides skin color).  As has been pointed out, the basic position behind the birthers and others is an attack on the legitimacy of the Obama presidency.  Here's the problem with that: Barack was elected by a substantial majority in an election whose results were uncontested.  Bush, by contrast, won less votes than his 2000 opponent and only took office after a 5-4 Supreme Court decision which was based on a theory of equal protection of the law which was diametrical to anything the 5-person majority had ever previously held and which that majority specifically limited to the holding in that case.  It was the most egregious example of result-driven jurisprudence in modern history and perhaps in the entire history of the Court.  So, questions about Bush's legitimacy (Hail to the Thief) were sound and based on law and fact; challenges to Barack's legitimacy are not.

But I sense an awful lot of "it's mostly Bush's fault" in the above paragraph. I also sense "Just trust Barack". I don't. I never have. I never will.

As for me? I have no answers. If I did, I doubt I'd be struggling from paycheck to paycheck.
I'm just very very concerned about the increasing debt as are MANY American citizens who are beginning to say "Whoa. This isn't what we voted for".
