What I find so incredibly disgusting here is implication by you guys, and the liberal media, that the only reason that so many people have a problem with Obama is because of the color of his skin! That is an outrageous thing to say, however, it is an easy out and it completely and convieniently ignores the truth.

It's always easy for an Upper West Side elite like Maureen Dowd, of the disgraced and nearly bankrupt NYTs to scream raicsm. I mean afterall, Joe Wilson is from the South. It all fits right into her Northeastern liberal mindset. Her slanderous article doesn't offer any kind of proof for her malicious claim. Just the implication of racism is enough for her, and her readers. She just plays the card that she was dealt by an angry Southern white senator. We all know what card that was. It's easy to make the claim, but there is not one scintilla of evidence to suggest that Wilson is a racist at all. He has no history of racism in his past. None. The implication alone will do for Dowd though. She knows that her readers will make the only obvious conclusion, and smuggly nod their heads in agreement at her spot on assesment of Wilson's redneck racist inner voice over their lattes. No proof mind you. Just a liberal hunch.

I guess it would only be fair for me to ask of Maureen Dowd why did she so vehemently oppose Clarence Thomas for the Supreme Court? I think it's because she hates successful black men that don't tow the liberal line. In fact I think that she considers them Uncle Toms. I have no proof that Dowd is a cross burning racist intent on "keeping the man down", but I think her objection of Thomas is proof enough. Don't you?

Here, read an article from a newspaper that still has plenty of subscribers and makes money. This guy destroys the rupugnant Maureen Dowd.

It boggles my mind that liberals are being so dismissive of the tens of millions of Americans who are getting more politicallly invloved because of Obama's policies. People are rallying because of the blatant attempt by Obama and the Democrats in congress to remake our nation into one that our grandparents would never recognize. The spending is insane! We are robbing our children and grandchildren blind and none of you want to address that insanity. It's easy to just ridicule the voices of dissent when they are not coming from the liberal "group think" bubble. If you folks want to continue to believe the race of the president is the driving force of this political counter revolution than have at it. But you're being very delusional.

If you think that all of these people are a bunch of racists than you are in for a very big surprise come the mid terms.

Definitely 70k. You could get more Rolling Stones nuts together in one place. That's all the Wingnutz that really give a damn these days. How much lower can they go? The shark has been jumped.

Like the Left Wing Wackos never accused Bush of lying, including doing so in Congress.  What a bunch of hypocrites.  It was their mantra for 7 years.

Every time the drones play the race card it hurts Obama and they are too stupid to figure it out.  Maybe it is time for Dowd and Wilson to go to the WH for a beer, LOL.

So does this mean you're not going to stop calling me unporovked names, or reply to my post about how you made huge claims that were false, especially since you just demanded I do so, in order to get an apology... Which btw , don't want  or need and I'm asking rhetorically, b/c you're still going to be the racist, homophobic yelling jerk you've always been. The same troll who thinks they know it all, treats everyone who diagrees like a piece of dirt and pretends they get hurt feelings from one comment, while making hundreds of nasty direct and indirect put dwns using curses and insults. Your authoritarian style and your neo-con hateful ways are dying, maybe they will come back, maybe they will still have so fight, but you in particular, are seeing yourself, how people here don't want it... You're pretty much the only left, and the only one still being a dick. Where;s Maxy, Fiji, Glancar, Telecaster? All of the did the same mean hurtful I'm better than crap too. For the most part, all good guys too, but this political hate crap is why they aren't here, and it's the only thing you come back for... It's your main thing... go post Stones on a political board... Do I look bad when you call me names? No! you do, you look bad! In reall life too. You do need to know, you're a way nicer guy than Tele or Glancar, and Maxy is one of the funniest nicest guys I met online.... think about what I have written the past few days, hopefully you hear it and don't react with your vile crap one more time.

If she was walking around with a cartoon-ized image of Clarence Thomas as a monkey or references to Kenya, then you might have a point, but that is not the case.

Still you have a point, that it is always touchy how one opposes a minority figure. Because of our long history of oppression in this country.

Our grandparents era was a time of racism and strong opposition to equal rights for minorities, so we are smart to progress beyond that era. We are evolving. Remember how outraged you were when I questioned your integrity to honor a bet? Well that was my OPINION based on your words. How would you feel if that OPINION was a constant attitude towards you everywhere you went, based on the color of your skin.

"one scintilla of evidence to suggest that Wilson is a racist"
Well, he does consider the Confederate flag more important than the complaints of people who it offends, and given the nature of that offense, he didn't choose the moral position. He is a Christian, but doesn't think the banner of slavery is bad?

scintilla [sin-till-a]
Noun
a very small amount; hint or trace

The spending IS insane, but why don't you paint a scenario where no money was used to prop up our financial institutions, where we still came through the economic meltdown. Of all the jobs being lost, which was families losing security, and how your scenario would stop the fall.

This isn't about (falsely) accusing Barack of lying; it's about a breach of decorum (I know it's a big word; borrow JC's dictionary).  And no, it's not the same as booing or hissing, which have been done to Presidents (Democratic and Republican) for years.  It's about yelling, "You lie (boy)!"  Are you "too stupid to figure it out"?

ACORN

Does the fact there have been
four locations stung, with more in
the pipeline, hurt the credibility of this
8 billion dollar yearly publically funded
organization?  Or, could it be said that
the leadership of this organization is in
need of a makeover & this group is still
a viable contributor in our society worth
the 8 billion dollar subsidy?

From TPM:

New Jersey is one crazy place, according to the new survey of the state by Public Policy Polling (D).

Dave Weigel points out that one out of every three New Jersey conservatives think that Obama could be the anti-Christ. To be precise, 18% of self-identified conservatives affirmatively say that Obama is the anti-Christ, with 17% not sure. Among the self-identified Republican label, it's 14% who say Obama has the number 666 hidden underneath his hair, plus 15% who aren't sure.

But oh it gets even worse on some other questions -- among both the right and the left.

It turns out that 33% of New Jersey Republicans say that Obama was not born in the United States, plus 19% in the Birther-Curious undecided category.

But Democrats shouldn't be too eager to laugh at this. On the other side of the political spectrum, there's some significant 9/11 Trutherism among Dem voters. We've got 32% of Jersey Democrats who say that George W. Bush had advance knowledge of the 9/11 attacks. In addition, another 19% of Jersey Dems are Truther-Curious, in the undecided column.

So that's only 48% of Jersey Republicans who definitively are not Birthers, and 49% of Dems who are officially not Truthers. Don't you just love our polarized politics?

Buckorama, it has begun. I thought it would take longer
than 9 months, however, that Rhodes Scholar Jimmah Cahtah
gave light to it today.  If you disagree with Obama, you are racist.
So, Obama did not wear a hat while bike riding on the Vineyard.

You want an olive branch? Fine. I extend my hand in friendship. I apologize for making you feel that I was no longer your friend, and acting dickish towards you. I have met you. I have had one very ass kicking weekend with you, and other ROers (including Feej, I might add). So in that respect I am sorry that a political thread has driven such a huge wedge between us, and between all Stones fans on this site. We would certainly get along great if we met up again. JC being the lone exception, mind you.

However, in the last two pages of this thread you have called me a cheat, and in the above post you claim that I am a "racist homophobic jerk", would like to withdraw those assertions? Or would you like to just explain your rational behind making such mean spirited, and downright false claims?

As I pointed out on the first post of this page. The claim of racism is an easy out. It immediately puts the accused on the defensive. In that respect liberals, like Maureen Dowd, love to throw it out there. It distracts from the argument, and it has people pointing at nonsense proof of said racism. Funman's assertion that Wilson tried to protect the former sate flag of South Carolina, for example. That's a crap argument that anyone from the South can attest to. Wilson's support of the "Confederate" flag had nothing whatsoever to do with race! It's a cultural thing that non-Southerners will never understand I guess. Gee, see how the accusation of racism distracts!

You say I'm a racist. Yet there is no evidence that I am, and, btw, I am far, far, far from a racist! You make the claim that I am a homophobe, but again, there is zero evidence of that accusation. It too is totally false. You say I'm a jerk. Guilty as charged, but only sometimes. I would point out that I am but one person here being forced to defend myself against a whole slew of backslapping liberals that never even consider any kind of civil discourse. What I'm saying here is that the assholes are on both sides of this argument, and you only see me as an asshole because we are on opposite sides of the debate. Take a look at some of 2000monkey's posts. How about Jizzy's? Can't forget leonid's either. Perhaps BJ's blatantly smug elitest posts are another example of jerk-like behaviour? Don't even get me started abiout JC/Flea! Yet, to you, I am the jerk! The fact that you find common political ground with the others certainly wouldn't color your perspective, would it?

This will probably get right under funman's skin, but I'm going to post it anyway.

Matthew 7: 1-5

Jesus said to his disciples: "Stop judging, that you may not be judged. For as you judge, so will you be judged, and the measure with which you measure will be measured out to you. Why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove that splinter from your eye,' while the wooden beam is in your eye? You hypocrite, remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother's eye."

We could all take something from that reading, don't you think?

whaa? where do you get that?? left field? the bleachers behind left field?

and how is kanye a reverse racist because of his anti taylor swift tirade? seriously....if and when, after feej and i release the alt country album and it sells a billion copies, we are invited to the grammys and are backstage, and if the eagles win fucking anything, you can be goddamned sure i will march right out there, rip the mic from don henley's hands, and say, "you can't be #@!$ing serious???" that doesn't make me a racist.

Buckorama, it has begun. I thought it would take longer
than 9 months, however, that Rhodes Scholar Jimmah Cahtah
gave light to it today.  If you disagree with Obama, you are racist.
So, Obama did not wear a hat while bike riding on the Vineyard.

Well that's a bit of an over simplification.

Some people believe that there is no racism in America any more, others have seen things that make them believe the opposite.
What Wilson did was on the border, so people can will varying opinions.

Personally, I really hate to believe that he is (or that his outburst was evidence of being) racist. He has sided with positions that allow the charge. And with the current GOP strategy, it gets even easier to believe he is.

I don't have a problem with most scripture or gospel, but I have a big problem that people believe "their book" is the true word of God.
How can one religion be more credible than another? How can a person of one faith regard a person of another faith as false worship?

Very few people deny that transformational experiences occur to those that pray a lot. It's really not even an argument.

But I for one would like to know what really causes this phenomenon so that maybe all of the different faiths can realize they don't need to wipe each other out to validate their own book's teachings.

Of course one must be VERY careful who one calls a racist (or a nazi, for that matter) and just blurting out "You lie!" when the POTUS is addressing Congress only qualifies Joe as a boor.  In fact, these days you'd swear there were NO racists to be found anywhere except of course in the White House (see: Glenn Beck). In the Hon. (sic) Joe Wilson's case, it's more of an overview of his career rather than one isolated, crude outburst.  As was mentioned before, Wilson put up a fight to keep the confederate flag flying over the State House. I suppose that was a "heritage not hatred" type sitch; you COULD look at the confederate flag as the banner of an anti-American rebellion which killed hundreds of thousands of predominantly white Americans, rather than the emblem of an agrarian society based upon the enslavement of the black race.  So that by itself doesn't make him a racist.

Then there was  the fit he threw when Essie Mae Washington-Williams  revealed that she was Strom Thurmond's illegitimate daughter by the Senator's black maid.  He called it a damn lie until Thurmond's family admitted it was true; then Joe said she should've kept her mouth shut about it even if it was true because it was "a smear" and "diminished" Thurmond's otherwise lilly-white "legacy". But he might've just been talking about the illegitimacy and not the miscegenation. So that by itself doesn't make him a racist.

...

There's his membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans.  I'm not sure if his dues are paid up to date or not, so again, that's not 100% racist.

His outburst in Congress is a bit suspect NOT just because the President wasn't lying, but also because  Wilson himelf voted for the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act, including its Section 1011 authorizing annual payments of  $250,000  of taxpayer money to reimburse hospitals for treatment of illegal immigrants.

BUT, in the long run, I guess it's hard to prove racism.  He's probably just a racialist.

As for Kanye, I agree with Obama. He's a jackass.

You accosting Don Henley at the Grammys would make you a "truther", not a racist.

Does the fact there have been

a good idea gone gone wrong... we're talking a big group, they've done many very, very good things... I think a make over could help, but then again, that might not fix anything and just cost money... can we call it a bailout and not a makeover?

fair enough. joe might be a racist. flying the confederate flag could easily send chills down the spine of any african american, and rightly so. the strom thurmond comments would further back up those claims.

but yelling "you lie!" at barry does not make him a racist, not in any way shape or form. we have to convict the guilty based on their actions, not circumstantial evidence.
