All I know is that today is  9/11. I'm quite sure we all remember what happened 8 years ago. Yelling and screaming at each other and saying my side is better than your side doesn't bring any of those people back. Never forget.

I agree, although I think perhaps you're saying that
Republicans screaming at Democrats is counter-
productive because we all need to get together and
hate the Muslims. At least that's what the NY Post
editorial, "Betraying The Dead", says. On this day,
as on every day, all true Christians need to heed
the teachings of their Lord, and all sentient beings
need to rise above the artificial lines which separate
us.

...

You have heard that it was said, `Love your neighbor
and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies
and pray for those who persecute you, that you may
be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes His sun
to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the
righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who
love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the
tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your
brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do
not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as
your heavenly Father is perfect.

...
Never forget.

Certainly we can all agree that the vicious crimes of eight years ago should never be forgotten and can never be excused.  I would hope we could all agree that exploiting this tragedy for political purposes, as Sarah Palin recently did when she suggested that Barack was dishonoring the 9/11 victims by criticizing the war in Iraq (NO LINK BETWEEN IRAQ AND 9/11, SARAH!), should be universally condemned.  Apparently we can't all agree on the motivations of the 9/11 butchers; some are still spouting the lie that they attacked us because they hate our freedom, when they have made clear their own reasons:  U.S. troops in their Holy Land of Saudi Arabia and U.S. support for Israel.  I'm not saying we should abandon Israel, though we should get our asses out of Arabia.  I'm just saying we should stop buying these neo-con myths and start figuring out what's really happening.

One thing I think is beyond dispute:  Sean Hannity lied when he accused Barack of calling insurance executives "bad people."  These lies must be called out, as must those who excuse or ignore them.  So I'm calling you out, LJ:  Do you admit that Hannity lied?

From TPM:

"You Trail!"

Rep. Joe "You lie!" Wilson now trailing in his reelection bid against Rob Miller, 44-43, according to a new poll.

"In a matter of seconds Joe Wilson turned himself from a safe incumbent into one of the most vulnerable Republicans in the country for 2010," the pollster observes.

A little off topic (not that it matters by now) : it's cool to see TPM referenced on RO ! I've been reading the blog since 2003 or so & still love it, though it's become a bit too much of a liberal attack machine for me. But I've plenty of admiration for Josh Marshall, both as a journalist and as an entrepreneur.

Just touching down from my spaceship to this thread, I've not

Has anyone ever seen The House Of Commons in the UK?

How about that Van Jones?
Real pillar of truth czar wasn't he.
Can anyone explain why he resigned?
Can you ask a 9/11 victim if his stance towards
that horrific day is for real?

One final memory....
Read this op-ed column & think about what is now....

http://www.nypost.com/p/news/opinion/opedcolumnists/betraying_our_dead_H6T95r1BT...

1. It's not "speaking out," it's disruptive heckling.
2. Wilson does not "represent the truth;" the provision precluding undocumented aliens from receiving federal health care funds has already been cited.  Wilson was not only wrong on decorum, he was wrong on the facts.
3. House of Commons?  You're proposing we go Euro, Nelly?  What is acceptable in Parliament is not in Congress.  This is America; if you don't like it, move to England.
4. Sure, Dems booed Dubya.  And Republicans hissed Bill Clinton.  Those sorts of actions are within the norm; Wilson's outburst was unprecedented.  If you can produce a clip of any Democratic member of Congress shouting at a President during a joint session as Wilson did, whip it out.  Otherwise, shut the fuck up.
5. Van Jones?  Nice attempt to change the subject.  Howe's that working out for you?
6. Ralph fucking Peters???  Give me a break.  I saw that nut job on O'Reilly last night; he's still spouting that BS about al Qaeda attacking us because they hate our way of life, not because of our policies (as bin Laden has explicitly stated on numerous occasions).  Save Col. Peters for the hopelessly misinformed (read:  average American reactionary).

Time for you to beam back up.

Well Counselor,  I sure feel like I'm facing cross on the stand this afternoon.

Okay what am I supposed to admit? That Hannity lied???  And I'm being called out why?? Riffy and Nanky are nowhere to be found and glencar as left the Board???

You see BJ, I can't stand Sean Hannity and never listen to his radio show or watch his TV show. Therefore, I don't think I'm the person you should be "calling out".

What I can say is this; after SCL's earlier post I realized that today is not the day for political bickering. It is a day for reflection and remembrance of innocent lives lost on 09/11/01. I'd throw in prayer, but so many of you seem to detest the notion of God, I won't bother.

I didn't break the "No political bickering today" suggestion.
And you????

Keeping tabs on everyone? Ok.

Well of course I feel the loss today, but
I don't feel the need to show anybody how I feel regarding the loss of life on Sept 11th.

"Never Forget" seems to mean "Never Stop Seeking Vengeance".

Vengeance is MINE - thus saith the Lord.

We've heaped hundreds of thousands of corpses on top of the World Trade Center. I think while we're never forgetting we should perhaps remember that. Did ANY of our honored dead wish that?

While we're shaming people, apropos of this sad anniversary when so many and so much died, I would have to say that ANYONE who used this tragedy for political ends - who saw it, for example, as the "new Pearl Harbor" they had been praying for to galvanize public opinion toward war - will have a circle of Hell reserved for them which is only a few degrees cooler than the one which holds the hijackers.

reflection, is looking at ones self and rememberance is looking at what happened... too many like to recal sad events and not look at themselves, and try to blame or even expalin something... you can't always do that, some things just are what they are... I do not need to feel angry and shitty today b/c of something unexplainable to my morals... in fact, I've decided to enjoy this day like a motherfucker... on a side note, Glenn Beck is like a preacher with no concept of god... a really, really bad mix... anyone catch his show right now? He is crying b/c we can't build a structure where the WTC stood... he is yelling about it... this guy needs a purpose, other than being dumb and crazy...

I agree with you. People ARE angrier. I find it very very sad and yet I'M angrier myself. Maybe I'm just getting old and cranky.

And you????

LJ.

I had also considered honoring the truce today, but I think "snake oil salesman" and "vomit emoticon" qualify as "political bickering."  Calling Barack a "snake oil salesman" is calling him a liar, and since he is telling the truth and Wilson, Hannity, Palin et al. are lying, it is necesssary to call you out on the lie which you joined with the snake oil comment.  And while I agree with SCL that "yelling and screaming at each other and saying my side is better than your side doesn't bring any of those people back," neither does standing silently in the face of lying politicians and their Faux News lackies.  In fact, a little more yelling by Congress and the American people at the Bush-Cheney "9/11=Iraq" lies would have saved the lives of thousands of Americans and allies and hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians.  Meanwhile, tens of millions of Americans go without health insurance, many others will lose their benefits as soon as they need them, and somewhere in this country, right now, someone is having to tell a spouse or a child that the medical care they need to save their lives is out there, but they just can't afford it.  But God forbid we should have a "government takeover" of the insurance company "death panels" that are denying coverage to the sick and dying.  It's a matter of basic morality and common decency to provide decent health care to all, and a matter of national shame and disgrace that the health care system which insurance companies and their political shills call "the best in the world" is really only #38.  It's time this country at least cracked the Top 20.

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern impassioned stress
A thoroughfare of freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!

O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for halcyon skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the enameled plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till souls wax fair as earth and air
And music-hearted sea!

O beautiful for pilgrims feet,
Whose stem impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till paths be wrought through
wilds of thought
By pilgrim foot and knee!

O beautiful for glory-tale
Of liberating strife
When once and twice,
for man's avail
Men lavished precious life!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till selfish gain no longer stain
The banner of the free!

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till nobler men keep once again
Thy whiter jubilee!
